Dog hair loss

My pudelpointer ( 2 year old female, spayed) has started to loose hair (non-shedding breed) or as non-shedding as a dog can be, they all shed. We have eliminated the possibility of mites or flea's and are now working on the problem as a food allergy. Currently feeding a special food (duck & potatoe). We have started to see some improvement, but the stomach, lower chest and inside of all for legs still shows bad hair loss. Has anyone else run into this and do you have any ideas.

Can very well be a food allergy as you noted. Can be another skin allergy such as shampoo or certain beddings. It can also be a thyroid problem. usually this doesn't show until approx. the age of 5, but can in certain instances show earlier or later in life. One of the most pronounced symptoms is hair loss... especially on the chest and belly. An inexpensive blood test can be done to confirm or deny any thyroid issue.

Good Luck!

my dog at 6 months old started losing hair last year. turned out to be tyroid problems. a daily pill fixed problem. her hair grew back on affected areas, but did not come back quite as thick. she's doing good since.
