I am looking at a 1998 Crestliner Sport Angler with a 90horse Johnson. Roller Trailer Snap on travel cover. A cheap fish locator and trolling motor. He wants $10,000 is this fair. Let me know any and all help is appreciated. Does anyone have any preference Crestliner etc. Thanks again

I have a 1650 crestliner fish hawk it works very well for me.Without seeing the boat is hard to tell what it is worth but 10000 sounds a little high

To me that is high. I sold a 2000 1750 Fish Hawk with 70hp 4 stroke tiller for about $9000 last year. I know this is not apples to apples but the 4 stroke does have a premium over the 2 stroke.

It seems a little high, espesially this time of year. In Nov 06 I got a 2002 Alumacraft, 75 horse merc, roller trailer, lowrance GPS fish fineder, 3 new batteries & 24v trolling moter for $6500 off this site.

LL, that does sound a little high. Right now there is a 99 ProV 2025 LE for sale here on FM for 14,500. That boat is running a 225 Opti, with nice electronics and trolling motor for 14,500. Now granted it is more money, but it is also a LOT more boat, way more that 50% more boat. Now is the time to shop around as you can find some killer deals out there in the winter.

The price seems a bit of a premium, depending on what shape it's in.

One thing I've found, after I bought my 175 Pro Tournament this fall - there is always a better deal somewhere. Sometimes you just have to decide that it's fair enough for you. I know that sounds trite, but I sat on my thumb for 6 months passing by boat after boat after boat, before pulling the trigger.

This is a good time of year to buy. A month from now though, and all bets are off. Spring fever will be in full bloom - and checkbooks aching to buy the new boat will swell....

That's good advice.

Just a word of caution on the Nada books, they tend to be a little low, particularly on motors.

I hope you find your 98 Sport Angler!

I bought my 1998 Fish Hawk with 60 Johnson, 65lb 24V Minn Kota powerdrive with autopilot/copilot/sonar, Roller Trailer, 2 fish finders, and other misc for $5800 last July. Only problem is minor scratching on the hull. Flawless otherwise.

As stated, once you pull the trigger, you will more than likely find what appears to be a better deal. I'm pretty sure it's a law of economics. The important thing is that you like it. If you are a stickler and keep looking for the perfect deal, you will likely spend lots of time and effort doing so. Pretty easy to add up your time and put a price on that too. Good luck finding your boat!

That does seem to be a bit high. Try offering him 8,500 and see what his counter offer is. It should be a little lower and justify the price. I agree with BNS, if you find the boat, it looks nice and you like it, jump on it before someone else does. I'm sure there are other people out there that'd like a nice boat like that.

When I'm shopping for a big ticket item and I find exactly what I'm looking for in a used item, if its exactly what I want, then I go for it. As others have stated, you may find it for less and you may also regret not buying it after someone else did.

It seems pretty high, considering that Lund and Crestliner both put together some pretty good deals that come out this time of year for the shows. You could probably buy new for close to that price. I have a 03 Fishhawk with a 90 two-stroke, I would guess that to be worth not much more than 10000????

my neighbor and several freinds have the old 90 and 3,6 to 4 mph is as slow as this monster will go forward

the technology and parts are 30 some years old and reliable ,but simply its more of a get going fast not a fishing motor

my neighbor paid 12600 at crystal pierz for his 2003 walk thru 17.5 foot lund with 90 horse Johnson 2003 model year ,it also has a new minnkota,and graph and cover.boat is like new and has a good but not great Karavan roller trailer.

would personally not pay over 7500.00 for a 1998 loaded with options,checked prices on several boats for sale web sites

For comparison I just sold an 02 Superhawk walk through with a 115 two stroke, with 74lb 24v trolling motor and two color graphs with GPS for 11500. I think I was right where I should have been. That number sounds a little high to me, but something is worth what someone is willing to pay. If it is the boat that you have been searching for go for it and don't look back.

LOL! Guess I'd beg to differ that used boats are hard to find. The market is absolutely flooded with used recreational vehicles (boats included) for sale!

Hate to point the finger at the economy but a lot of people "have" to unload a toy or two to make ends meet now. If you can run into someone in this situation, you'll walk away with a steal of a deal.

Boats that appear to be overpriced are typically priced that way as a break even and pay off the loan approach for the seller. They'll have a hard time budging as they don't want to take a loss.

In this case, I think this boat is quite a bit high in $$$. The only time I'll pay more for a big ticket item is if its exactly the one I want so thats up to you to decide!

looked on several web sites and took area down to within 60 minutes metro and found lots of nice boats

even new 1650 glass Stratos with 50 Yamaha 2 stroke $13450.00

Aluminum packages about the same on Alumicraft ,Lund in 16 footers

I think with so many days to purcchase before open water and all the trades coming in to dealers at sports and boat shows that patience will get anyone the used boat they need

And their are so many used private party boats

Look in used boats here regularly and something should show up

Wow thanks for all of the info from all of you. It was a 1750 not 1650, but I did pass on it for now. I will have to wait till I find the right deal and I look at FM for those deals often thanks again.

Yes from both Cabellas and Gander Mountain you will yet have to pay freight and rigging charges.

The small print at the bottom of the adds is so small that I even could not read it

I think they purpose write it that way

MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

      On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!

      Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
