Has anyone ever ice fished Wolf Lake SE of Wolf Bay? Can you access this with a snowmobile in the winter? According to the DNR the lake contains decent number of small walleyes? I am just looking for a good day trip adventure next time up to Vermilion. Thanks, Mike

Wolf is full of small walleyes. There is a trail that goes from the south shore of Wolf Bay and goes into the Northwest corner of Wolf.

WORDS OF CAUTION:

These small lakes can be full of nasty slush in years like this. And typically, there isn't that much traffic so if you get yourself into a pickle, you may be there for awhile. If I was going in there, I would proceed with extreme caution or go in there hot and don't stop until you can verify conditions. Just got back from helping someone get a machine out of a slush hole.

Thanks shamrock, I'll heed your warning on the slush conditions. I found myself in some nasty slush while on Susan heading in from Black Lake. I quite possible ruined my wife's sense of adventure on that ride.

It took me many years to get somewhat comfortable with slush. I know my daughter went out to take a picture of a sun set and got into it, she made it out but scared the bejeses out of her. Newer machines and a few studs make it pretty manageable but if you get stuck, it ain't fun.

Lazy Mike if you make it out there please let us know how it went. Is the access easy to locate from vermilion? I have always wanted to get out there but never had the time but I am going to try to get out there befor the end of the season.

@leech~~ I believe the permit does require those houses to be moved out of the contest area.  Not necessarily kicked off the lake. That’s what permits are for, eh?  Looks like a great day for you two - congrats!  Might’ve been the lake, the spot or the fisher.  But I’ll go with the lake too.

Anyone come up with a good way to store the dinette table when fishing? My IC has two holes under the dinette and I put it outside to fish but it is sooooo cold when I turn it into a bed to go to sleep. Thinking of a bracket to hang it inside but I don’t really want to block a window? Any ideas? What do you guys do?

Went by there today and noticed a few house setup in the contest area.  What happens to them next weekend? They are told to move or get kicked off a public lake? Should have gone to a different lake there Wanderer. Just saying. My son and I today.

There have been signs there for a long time,   maybe 30 years?

Good for him making those signs I enjoy his views in a nutshell!

Access is in good shape at Hole in the Day.  Ice is in good shape and travels MUCH easier than last year.  But that was due to slush getting rutted and refrozen.  These warm temps might play that way again.  But for now all is well. Fishing though... the evening walleye bite was short like usual but finicky for us.  1 - 14 inch eye iced and one other lost.  Set line and shiner was responsible for the 14.  The hooked and lost fish was on a spoon with minnow head but I had to let it hang still for the commitment.  I had several other lookers but they just wouldn’t eat it.  Two lines became one but no bump!  Nice day to be on the lake.
