Night fishing on Rush

2 posts in this topic

I am thinking about trying West Rush tomorrow late afternoon / evening. Just wondering if people have good luck leading up to nightfall and after? I have fished early mornings into the early afternoon and the fishing has tended to slow towards the evening, so I am skeptical of giving it a try.

Thanks in advance for sharing any thoughts on the subject....

If you are fishing for crappies you will have luck after dark. I have tried all times of the day this year and we always managed to catch fish. Seemed as though some times were better but you will catch fish. I fish from 10:00-1:00 the other night and did fine. You may just have to work a little harder to get them to bite.

I agree with AlwaysFishing--you can come down in line weight for braid if you're just straight up bass fishing. I personally like 30lb if there are a lot of toothy critters around. I use 50-60lb when going after pike and muskie. Have you ever tried fireline for your spinning rod? When jigging, wacky worming, etc., I use 8-12lb fireline exclusively--you can feel EVERYTHING and no stretch is an added bonus.

Very high expectations. Especially that splake...36 inches would be 2.5 inches longer than what the state record is.

Good for him holding that big pig.

Going to hit it tomorrow. Haven't decided where we will but in at the junction or head towards birchdale. Have heard varying fishing reports. Any info is appreciated! Tight lines everyone!

I was up for my first trip to RR on Wednesday and Thursday. Launched at Birchdale Wednesday morning because it was the only one open. Launched at Vidas on Thursday.  Fished the ice edge as it pushed westward for some of both days with minimal success. Caught a 28.5" and 26.5" on consecutive casts on Wednesday but not much other action at ice edge.  We had our most success at the connection of the Rapid River (just west of Vidas Landing). Caught about 45 walleyes total with a 28" and 26" being the biggest from that spot.  We also hooked up with 15 sturgeon, landing 4 of them. A 66", 60" and finished the trip landing two sturgeon in the same net (a 42" and 32", or so).  It was an amazing experience and I will be back again in the upcoming years!
