Any reports out of Appeldoorns?

33 posts in this topic

Any reports coming out of Appeldoorns lately? Looking at renting a house in a couple of weeks. Just wondering what all going on. The main thing I'm wondering is how far the roads go out to! Just trying to figure somethings out.

The bite has been a tough one for the last week. It finally started to pick up yesterday with some nice perch being taken out of the deeper water off of Doe Island Reef and 2 Mile Gravel.

The Walleye bite started to pick up yesterday evening and then again early this a.m.

Here are a couple of photos from a Paul Bosch

I just check the forcast for that weekend and it looks like it is going to pretty cold that week and weekend. Hopefully the weather stays a little consistant to keep the fish active!

Just got back from Appleldorns, To say the least no fish for us. Not a hit either night in the house and a few small perch during the day. Went around during the day Sat and saw lots of fish on the camera, but not takers. Talked to Paul on my way out this morning and said it has been slow and that a few houses have had some luck. Hope it turns on for you guys as your trip comes near. Report back and let us know.

Hey Paul,

How is the ice up there? Are all the houses out there now and if so, how far out? I have the new big one reserved in a few weeks, will it be out?

With the cold coming in, it should really thicken things up.

We were up this weekend. Things were slow, we managed a few small perch during the day but had to work for them. Others in our group did catch jumbos, just not very many. The largest couple of perch caught were 12". There were also a few eyes caught, ranging from 20"-26". Nothing under 20 to my knowledge.

We even saw a few eyes on the camera, unfortunately for us the perch hatch had them less than interested and were well fed.

Guys who left the main houses and moved to deeper structures in their portables around 26-30' did have a great time on jumbos, but they stayed mobile and didn't just hole up in the shacks.

The hospitality of Appledoorns was top notch, we'll be back, thanks Paul.

Chris,

We have had all of our houses out since 12/26. The big one is sitting out on a small rock pile a mile out from the resort.

The report doesn't look very promising right now, it has to get better going forward, right?? Any chance of navigating a wheeler off of the plowed roads? How is the slush?

Hey Paul,

are people driving on the ice with cars? Do you plan on moving anything in the next few weeks?

I was up over the weekend and put over 30 miles on my ATV, a few slush pockets but nothing 4WD could not get me threw. It was all getting pretty hard as far as I could see. Saw all types of vehicals on the lake!

ok I do know where that is. I was just making sure. So that is right next to Wahkon pretty much. We are going out of Walleye Dundee's. \:\( Haven't had any luck on the eyes, only perch.

Anyone else on the lake in Dundee's or jj's area having any luck?

Its nice to get this cold weather to harden everything up, but sounds like if suppose to be a little warmer by the weekend of the 25-27. Which will be nice for moving around during the day time!

Yup!  I can see how that would be annoying!    Welcome to Fishing Minnesota though.  Glad to see your posts.

Got out on Saturday along with my brother who went out in his boat. So much mud that we went our separate ways searching for better water. With 3 in his boat he caught 5 Coho and 5 Lake Trout. I found a nice spot and went 2/5 before the wind messed up the spot. Sunday morning went out with my brother to the same spot and had a double before the third line was out. Ended up going 7/11 before a storm with red in it chased us off the lake. Loonasea was correct on the nice size of the Coho's right now. All fish were caught with stick baits on top.

Ya, I Was corrected already. Sorry.

Soooo many spots to hit, your going to love the yak, JC!   And Royce is right about an anchor. This would be my first investment.

My unit is not a link unit. I thought they worked the bugs out of these units. 19 years ago they recalled all of these when almost all of them failed. Fingers crossed I guess.

Hi guys - went out on Blue lake yesterday .... water temps around 61 -62 on the surface.    Tried for some walleye with ripple shads in the weeds with no success, did manage a nice Bass.  we switched to crappies and managed keeping a nice meal.  Let a nice monster Blue Gill go (9.75") and kept some nice Sunnies for the frying pan.   Pan fish were pretty active if you hit the right spots.  A lot of people out there and the access was not a place to be in a hurry!!   We had to work for the crappies and the ones we caught were 9"-10" crappies full of eggs.  I would guess that although the ice was out early, many of the species are now late and delayed on the spawn.   if this weather don't warm up quick, i think the bass will drop their eggs and it won't be a good year for bass spawn this year.    Talked to some anglers out their bass fishing and they thought it was very slow and were puzzled.   Cret

I apologize for my word choice. I'm from chisholm n most of my camping trips growing up were decided after work on Friday n we can't do that now. The only positives that have come from the reservation system is ppl who have never been 2 the park (5%) now don't have 2 worry about a spot n the fishing guides don't have 2 worry about finding a place 4 shore lunch.

Sorry I had to edit your title.  I've been hearing some people are upset about the change.  But I also heard there were some positives about it too.  I can't say anything one way or the other since I'm not affected.

It does have lakers but I think they closed it for harvest.  I thought I read it was due to those lakers being a different strain and getting fished down a little too much.   That laker Rob caught was a hawg!  Too bad he got it taken away.
    • Sushilicious
The fact that ppl have to reserve a campsite is absolute BS. The only thing the park accomplished by making ppl reserve campsites is lowering the amount of ppl who visit the park.
