I was out there this afternoon with my kids. There were a LOT of people on the ice! We fished the north bay with the crowd. We caught 2 sunnies, both 8", 16 perch 8-9", 1 13" walleye, and my son caught a 38" pike on a fathead just before dark. He saw 3 other big northerns on the camera so I ma sure if we had targeted them, we would have done well.

There is a pretty good trail from the ramp to the north bay but a lot of snow on the ice so 4x4 is a must if driving out.

Out on Swede Grove yesterday, saw a lot of perch and b-gills on camera. A couple of pike came thru but no bites. If you like catching medium to small perch and medium size gills/sunnies it's alright. Also saw a fish house that had burned up out there, hopefully the owners pull off all thats left of it soon.

Went again yesterday, roughed it for 3 hrs, caught about 30 or so perch in 11 FOW. tip up went up once, but lost a nice sucker minnow to something big, i need to set the hook better. Only one other guy was fishing at the time who was not having any luck just 50 feet from where i was.

Most of our fish came on minnows under bobbers. I spooked countless fish with even subtle jigging.

Hey, Here a quick update on actual ice thickness or snow cover on trout. 14 inchs of ice pressure ridge out there. if you are  on a snowmobile if traveling fast on it watch for it. Truck or car i do not recommend on trout with pressure ridge. And yes i have been on the whitefish chain this year in truck. just not on trout. just my 2 cents

Thanks for the info everyone. And Borch that is good to know too.  I try to spend 2-3 hours looking on cedar each trip, but It's a lot of water to break down , and having only been out hardwater cattin 6 times so far I still have a lot to learn.  Generally I spend a lot of my 3 hours losing confidence and then wind up at the meth hole to catch a few .  Putting in the work is what makes it so fun once it all comes together though!
