No eyes and no Pout tonight. Lots of snow and some slush. If you have a wheeler or sled bring it. The haul in and out is a hard one right now.

Northlander,

Nice to bs with ya again. We missed a couple more bites and finally put our first Pout (small one) on the ice around 7pm. Very slow.

Good luck this weekend!

Northlander,

Going to be out there on Sunday... How deep is the snow? whats the ices like? I'll be bringing my wheeler with and dropped it through the ice once when I 1st got it, which in itself is bad, but what was worse is I had to have a HONDA pull me out.

Im guessing 6" of snow with spots of 2" of slush. We will find out today for the Poutfest (see above) if wheelers will cut it. Im guessing they will do ok in most spots. DO NOT head down by Oliver bridge area! Too much current and slush and someone always goes through down there.

As far as I know there are no resorts that rent fish houses on Vermilion. You could try Pike Bay Lodge though. Great place! Cliff

Ha. Nope. Those are just my numbers. The other guys got 25-35 each per day.    The purpose of posting the info I did is to point out that the sky is not falling. There are still a ton of fish in the lake, just have to find them.

Keep on preaching BA.   Just got back from a resort on the river, 3 days fishing. 22 feet of water, they sad they were catching fish. Shacks obviously haven't been moved so far. Obvious tell tale signs.   2 out of 3 afternoons never marked one fish. The other was just a couple. Morning bite 8-8:07   They ran with the pedestrian anglers/corporate drinking groups  'good fishing' reports with their bucket of 1 limit of 10" saugers.   Signed, Disappointed Schnook from Chicago

Wednesday was a gorgeous day on the lake...for January, anyway.  Starting to move around the lake until the pike move to the North end to start staging for spawn. It always makes for big pike later in the winter. Had some luck with a couple of small Northern pike but got a surprise when I landed a small Tiger Musky. The DNR stock them every other year in Phalen. They have been doing this since the 80's, so there's bound to be some big ones in there.

Thanks for the information! I'll give it a try.
