Free Tip Up On Coon Lake

5 posts in this topic

Just wanted to thank the fisherman who left a brand new Frabill tip up out on Coon Lake. I am sure I will get more use out of it than the previous owner, since it did not even have any line on it yet and the packaging material was right next to it. The only reason I got it was I sent my kids to pick up the case of empty beer cans left on the ice. Thank you once again. grin.gif

You know I was in no shape to be even be looking at beer cans on Sunday, full or empty. I was doing good until we cracked the Crown. The worst part was I had to get up at 0800 to go to the inlaws. The only positive was I still managed to take your money.

Got to love those finds. I usually take the sled out once in awhile around the lake and get stuff like that. I got a brand new tip up last year on forest lake, line hook and all!

ecc, makes it worth the gas money, eh? smile.gif

HUNTNBUX, I'm sure losing my pocket change to you was what upset me so bad, I had to pray (in bathroom) about the time you got up to go to the in-laws. smirk.gif

75% whent to mass on that one!

Let me know if you're headed out this weekend. We're iffy on the roosters. Hope we go tho.

I have also worried about the quality of the bite...and the absence of perch. At least on the northwest side, anyways, where we almost never mark small perch anymore.  In years past, the best indicator of a soon-to-be big red mark on the Vex was that the small perch vacated the area.  I did see TONS of perch down on the south side this year, but I don't know how the numbers there compared to years past, either.   But yeah, the bite has been excellent for, what, three years now?  We're also catching a decent mix of fish (though of course most are from the 2013 year class).  The only good thing to mention, at least in my experience, is that the fish do look very healthy and fat, very unlike the fish during the "boom years" in the mid-2000's when everything you'd catch would be a skinny 26 incher.

Bite has been non existent for us this weekend for pike...we fished out of springsteel yesterday one flag. We are out of warroad and no flags yet... We tried as shallow as 4ft, out in 11ft now.

When I was a kid, I used to ask my dad to take me ice fishing--he would always say "wait 'till it gets warmer"......
