Saw a NICE 10 point Monday morning!!

2 posts in this topic

My normal early morning routine this time of year is to start the coffee and then watch and count deer as they're leaving my food plots. Counted 6 does leaving one plot and then saw three more deer leaving the other plot, my wife picked them with the spotting scope and thought one was a buck. I set up the scope to catch them when they crossed an opening and the leader of the three was a nice ten point, long tines, wider than the ears!!! Not real heavy massed but a nice tall tined buck!!! Hope he survives the cars and coyotes until next year!!!! Then it will be interesting to see what he develops into!!!

Interestingly enough he was traveling with another small buck. The third deer was a doe or could have been a buck that had shed already. Also interesting that he didn't follow the path of the does, he went by some tree lines and into some woods, more cover - thats probably why hes has survived this long.

2 nights ago I had an exceptional 9 pt in the backyard.

I have seen hime one time in person as he corssed the road near our house a month ago. I have him on trail cam a couple times.

He was with a smaller 8pt and a doe as well.

Pretty impressive on the body size when standing next to a couple other deer. He is gonna be an absolute brute of a deer if he makes it to next year.

There is about a million skid houses for sale around the lake that you may get pretty good deals on if you don't want to go through all the work.

10/23/16     Central MN      Cold front last week and again this morning brought new ducks into central MN. Mainly observed migrating flocks of ringnecks, wigeon, gadwalls, canvasbacks, and mallards--calendar migrators from ND and southern Canada most likely. Had a few good days of duck hunting from a boat on a couple mid-sized shallow lakes. It is that time of the year for calendar migrators. Any time you can get out over the next couple weeks during or the day after a strong west or NW wind, or the day after a cold, clear night with a light westerly wind go for it. Soon these ducks will blow through and we will be waiting for the hardy Canadian ducks that stay just south of the snow and ice line. Good luck, and I will see you out there somewhere.

Brian, That certainly can not be a good thing for Vermilion! I have not seen it that bad on Big Bay yet. Cliff

I was back up to morris yesterday oct 22 fished afternoon for about 3 hrs. in 17 to 19 feet caught about 25 walleye and sauger mix average size about 10 in. only 2 keepers. Lots of boats everyone was catching fish. I'm guessing I missed as many as I caught. Stinger saved the day!
