Comming Up on Wednesday, Dec 26

3 posts in this topic

Since the ice conditions are pretty bad here in the Walker area, I talked to wife into a little Christmas Trip.

Decided to leave the fish house at home and rent one from Chad Benson. Seems to have pretty good houses and a pretty good price and I have heard nothing but good things from people passing through the store on their way home. Only can stay one night, have to be back to work on Friday.

I got a kick out of his fishing report when I read that people were having to pull the rattle reels up at 1-2am so they can get some sleep. grin.gif A sales pitch or not, thats what I wanted to here.

Hoping for some consistant walleye action with a 40"er mixed in. Not expecting any crappies but thats ok. Everything is going back down the hole anyway.

Got the Glow Red and Glow Yellow Demons and Rattle Spoons ready to go!!!! It should be a fun little trip.

I will have a full report when I get back late Thurs. We will be on the South end going out of JR's. Doesn't sound like we will be going out that far, maybe a mile or 2, 10-12 FOW, I told Chad that I was more interested in a good Walleye bite. grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

We too are heading up on Wednesday and are coming back late Friday. I would love to find the crappies, but I really wouldn't care if we don't. As long as the walleyes keep us busy it is always worth the 250 mile drive!

There's a good chance my son and I will be there Wednesday also for a day trip. He's only 4.5 years old but I think he's ready for a good walleye bite grin.gif I'll be coming up from my folk's place in Grand Rapids so it's not too bad of a drive for a 1-day trip.

Send me a pm for some ideas in the area. I plan on hunting Dayton and Monticello mainly but if those don't work out I need some backup plans.

I am with you, net_man.  I *hate* that I can't C&R walleyes in the fall.  I mean, what's hooking mortality at 6-12 ft deep with artificial lures in October and November?  I've never had a fish not swim away, and I can't remember one that didn't do it in a hurry.  Drives me crazy, as fall trolling on Mille Lacs is one of my favorite ways to catch fish.  This year, thanks to the weather, we did get out in December...and the fishing was nuts.  If only we had been able to be out all fall...   I wonder if the night ban in the fall (even if we haven't hit our quote) has more to do with enforcement than anything else.  I have no idea what's said at meeting I ain't invited to.

The big one in Sherburne I hunt a lot and even during firearm season I never see anyone close to me as I like to get back as well. During archery it is even easier usually I only see a truck here and there but the place is huge so you never see them.   You living in Andover there is a 200 acre public place like 10 mins away from you that doesn't get hardly any archery pressure I sometimes go there after work for a quick hunt and there is only a couple trucks there usually.   There is also a very small one on the way up to the big one in Sherburne that on spur of the moment I went to on gun opener and I was the absolutely only person there.   But really most every one for archery is going to have minimal pressure.
