Ida

5 posts in this topic

Haven't been up for some time and just curious as to how the ice is progress (or lack there of) on Ida and if anyone is doing anything out there? Won't be up until New Years weekend. May get some fishing in but will probably be too busy chasing roosters.

I know that their are some houses out there and that there are some 4-wheelers and sleds out there no cars or trucks out there. I wouldn't be trusting the ice right now for cars or trucks! The ice is so up and down all over the place.

I was out on the west side of Miltona on Sunday and while the ice is good with 10 inches, the snow and slush on top of it presents a problem. In spots you drop down through the snow up to your knees with slush on the bottom.

I have not seen any autos on the lake yet, just snowmobiles and quads. I would even hesitate to take a quad right now as their is a good chance at getting that stuck out there too due to clearance problems.

Very high expectations. Especially that splake...36 inches would be 2.5 inches longer than what the state record is.

Going to hit it tomorrow. Haven't decided where we will but in at the junction or head towards birchdale. Have heard varying fishing reports. Any info is appreciated! Tight lines everyone!

I was up for my first trip to RR on Wednesday and Thursday. Launched at Birchdale Wednesday morning because it was the only one open. Launched at Vidas on Thursday.  Fished the ice edge as it pushed westward for some of both days with minimal success. Caught a 28.5" and 26.5" on consecutive casts on Wednesday but not much other action at ice edge.  We had our most success at the connection of the Rapid River (just west of Vidas Landing). Caught about 45 walleyes total with a 28" and 26" being the biggest from that spot.  We also hooked up with 15 sturgeon, landing 4 of them. A 66", 60" and finished the trip landing two sturgeon in the same net (a 42" and 32", or so).  It was an amazing experience and I will be back again in the upcoming years!
