Most all lakes have good ice closer to shore.Going out in the middle could be a problem in areas that are deep.

I know of several spots close to shore where there are drop offs that would be great eye fishing now.

FI--let me know how the ice looks when you get back. I am heading there in a week or so. Got spots near shore, but some of them i have to cross some bigger water to reach from the cabin. Would imagine the first break would be fine as far as ice, but after that i would be hesitant

thanks for the update and good luck!!

Thanks FI.....it's been making ice.The snow is settling which will help as the air dissapates from the fluffy snow.

I'd say in a week we should have no more thin ice issues.Except by moving water like creeks.

Good luck sticking those walldogs!

Most of our fish came on minnows under bobbers. I spooked countless fish with even subtle jigging.

I never made it out Monday was too tired from fishing Friday - sunday didn't feel like getting up early

Hey, Here a quick update on actual ice thickness or snow cover on trout. 14 inchs of ice pressure ridge out there. if you are  on a snowmobile if traveling fast on it watch for it. Truck or car i do not recommend on trout with pressure ridge. And yes i have been on the whitefish chain this year in truck. just not on trout. just my 2 cents

Thanks for the info everyone. And Borch that is good to know too.  I try to spend 2-3 hours looking on cedar each trip, but It's a lot of water to break down , and having only been out hardwater cattin 6 times so far I still have a lot to learn.  Generally I spend a lot of my 3 hours losing confidence and then wind up at the meth hole to catch a few .  Putting in the work is what makes it so fun once it all comes together though!
