Big Birch ice

6 posts in this topic

Anyone have an update on ice on Big Birch? Wondering if it will be good enough to hit this weekend for some early ice eyes. Thanks for any help.

I would like to head up there on Friday, so I too would appreciate a report.

I checked the lake this past Sunday and there was six inches all over the bays but I do not know what the snow did to this ice. I saw a few portables in the shallows but nothing on the main part of the lake. I think I might give it a try on Sunday.

let us know how it was. I am going out on hunters bay maybe next week depending on your report. And be careful so as the commercial goes there is a next time king....

Dont know about Big, but just talked to the bro-in-law who was on Little Birch, he tried getting on the south side somewhere, but only got out about 100 feet before the ice changed to 2" with slush. Then he went around to the North side and found 5-6". Don't know how he is doing/did though. I would imagine wind sheltered areas are generally pretty safe now, but the south side of lakes and bigger areas are still hairy. Be safe

Rumor has it that they have been fishing hunters bay. But like I said it's just rumors I have heard.

Mercury is emitted from coal burning power plants and can travel a long ways.  Sulfate or maybe it is sulfide is from mining.

So, this Deer runs through the forest all winter without breaking it's neck on anything. Then breaks it's neck by your deck that just happens to have a bird feeder and lots of really big rocks by it? Did the Warden buy it?   Oh yeah nice fish haul.

I always thought after shooting them from my deck, it couldn't get any easier; guess I was wrong. Lol! Backstraps never tasted sweeter. Hope you bought a lottery ticket.

Information I have indicates the operator stopped his machine on the marked trail, in a section marked 'Thin Ice'. That is when the machine went through.
