Thats what I just heard this morning from a co-worker who lives on the lake. Geese out swiming last week. We got about 7" of snow up here and I figure if temps keep up, I plan to hit it Fri or Sat.

Thanks again. I live about 30 miles away but I'll be driving up saturday and hopefully the ice will be thick enough.

I never was able to make it to Green, went to Minnewaska instead. If anyone has any ice reports, I would appreciate it.

Thanks

I heard this morning that a very large crack opened up yesterday from one end of lake to the other. With warm temps in future, it will be hard to refreeze.

Be careful!~ frown.gif

Hey Hunter Fisher,

I fish on Spec. from time to time. The area in front of boat landing can be good sometimes, but most people go out in front of the swimming beach area. What are you planning on fishing for on Spectacle? There are alot of Notherns and Bass to catch.

Good Luck and welcome to the area. cool.gif

hey Dozer,

I was out on green yesterday and I found from 7"-10" of ice and I fished the shallows 5'-8', did not get a bite but did mark a couple fish but when the camera went down it turned out to be some small sunfish that refused waxworms or crappie minnow. Been on the Green 3 times this year and not even a bite, thats strange. Good Fishing!

I was on Green last night with 600,000 others!! grin.gifgrin.gif Between 4 guys we caught 2 perch, 1 crappie, and 1 eye in 5 or so hours. The fish were there but very closed mouthed.

Question: If somebody finds a set of keys with a pewter #20 Tony Stewart fob, could you let me know? I'm sure they're at the access.

Thanks!

Dozer,

Were you the only one out there? I just got back from there looking for my keys and I didn't see anybody.

Maybe the fish are still in shock from the weekend! blush.gif

I would just like to say there's nothing better than a magnet on a stick! Three minutes and "click", found em. cool.gif

I have fished crappies and walleyes there for too many years now, and all I know is that when the weather is cold, and alot of fishing pressure (which is a given these days) they get tight lipped. I use TINY jigs or even a plain (tiny)hook with a waxy. Sinks slow, but they hit it. I have pulled some limits on that, when nothing else works. GLOW HOOKS HELP.

I finally got out to green on saturday and have to warn everyone that I was only on 4 inches of good ice, if that. There was about 4 inches of ice with an inch or two of slush and a bunch of snow on top. The first 5-7 holes I punched had about 6-7 inches but where I was fishing only had 4 and there were 4 wheelers driving on top of it by my house. I did catch fish and was fishing in 25 ft by the point. Be careful out there

Anyone been out in the last couple of days, ice thickness? Anyone out on the west side of the lake or do they mostly stay by the point and the humps?

Wow, that's crazy. On Saturday I was only on 5 inches of ice and I was off the point. The ice is thicker in some spots and not very thick in others. I didn't have much luck fishing though, they were there but wouldn't bite. I was in 25 ft of water.

was out on the point in 27 ft. on X-mas. Fished the prime time, dark till about 8:30. They were FINIKY!! Still brought home 10, but put back 5 or 6. Had to change jigs after each fish. Strange, but had that before too last year, out in South end by the hump, hmmm. kept swithching between 3 jigs, each with 1 waxy bent in half (double hooked) or half a waxy. They would not hit 2 or 1 long waxy. So finiky! If you don't have a light set up, it can be hard. Light line, and a full battery on the vex, cuz you gotta gain up maybe, to see your junk. all off bottom. How is the fishing in the North bay just NorthWest of the point? how deep out there. Never gone out there. Wondering. Good luck and happy new year to all of ya.

just be prepared to fish 'em lite. tiny flys with 1 wax worm will work. Hopefully they get more aggressive, but I doubt it with this cold here for a lil while to go still. the point was good in 27 ft. Gotta fish'em really lite though. 20 fish last 2 days out there.

We were out Sunday in 27 fow. Use SMALL jigs. We had the best luck with minnows, but boy are they finicky. Caught some small

ones with some nice ones in between. Even caught a nice northern in 26 feet. Go figure??? 10 inches of ice where we were. A few trucks on the ice but I wouldn't be driving on it. OK for wheelers.

This is the one off CR 7, right? confused.gif Going off a tip from a friend, I fished this lake for my first time ever Saturday morning. I didn't find these finicky biters. Instead I found nice crappies that were slamming my jigging spoon. I was set up in 21-24 fow and the fish were coming up 6 feet to bite. I moved around a lot from hole to hole to stay on the active fish. Ice was about 8 inches where I was fishing. The bite stayed good until about noon.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
