Saturday Report

3 posts in this topic

Got out and braved the weather Saturday on the south bay of Chisago. We didn't venture too far, and were fishing in about 8 ft. Ended up catching about 20 crappies, 6 bluegills and three large mouths. Wasn't as fast as it usually is there, but was great for the first day out. Most crappies were dinks with the exception of 4-5. Looking forward to a great season. About 5 inches where we were.

"Any four wheelers yet?" Are you kidding me! Your taking chances just walking out there. The snow really screwed things up.

It is a bad idea.  It can spread disease and invasive species.   Don't do it.     Besides, the minnows swim away and within a short time are dispersed so the fish wouldn't see them as a big attraction.

For the summer trip, there are many nice resorts to choose from.   Depends on what you are looking for.   If you want walleye, choose something on the Tower end.  If more Bass, Musky, or Northern then either end of the lake.       There is a fair amount of variation in amenities and price among the various resorts, with many to choose from.

Would love to get together, but still in recovery from shoulder surgery. I will be attending the Ruffed Grouse Society Birds and Brews gathering and the Pheasants Forever Greet and Meet in Cambridge at the Pizza  Pub and Sidelines respectively in February. RGS on the 2nd at 5:30 and PF on the 20th at 5:30. No cost - just fun.

As far as I know there are no resorts that rent fish houses on Vermilion. You could try Pike Bay Lodge though. Great place! Cliff

Ha. Nope. Those are just my numbers. The other guys got 25-35 each per day.    The purpose of posting the info I did is to point out that the sky is not falling. There are still a ton of fish in the lake, just have to find them.
