This weekend is normally my first weekend to go up north and start hitting the ice, but this year it's delayed by a week because my wife is working. It's killing me to wait an extra week. grin.gif

Yeah I've definitely been thinking about it. Well, we could probably find 3" of ice without traveling too far this weekend, but I'd rather go a bit further and be comfortable out there.

was in hibbing last weekend. the smaller lakes on the chain were half frozen thursday, frozen over on friday, and people were ice skating close to shore on saturday. my uncle said there were guys all over the lake fishing on tuesday. the larger lake, 1000 acres or so, is still only half frozen due to high winds as of this morning.

i would imagine just about any smaller lake you can find will be more than safe for foot travel and many of those would be safe for ATV travel by this weekend. they have had many nights below zero this week.

best of luck up there.

Planning on heading up to Vermillion tomorrow night to catch a morning bite laugh.gif, an afternoon buzz crazy.gif, and then the evening bite laugh.gif, but looking at the weather reports, I might just wait until next weekend. frown.gif Anybody else heading up that way this weekend?

My stuff is ready, I'm planning on driving to the Brainerd Area tomorrow to check things out. Hopefully the expected snows don't put a damper on things.

Never did report back from last weekend.  We fished Friday evening through Sunday morning.  Friday and Saturday were pretty slow, between 5 of us we had about 6 keepers nothing over 15", and were fishing pretty hard, moving a lot.  Got up early Sunday morning and had a great bite on a main lake reef, we ended up keeping a limit between the 3 of us that were out there.  The other two were pretty disappointed they slept in.  We were sitting in 28' of water and caught most of our fish on minnow heads and a rattle jig, as well as a couple slot fish on a shiner under a tip up.

Are the catfish still biting decent out there? Usually make it up earlier in the year have not made it up yet this year but I'm looking to come up one of the next couple evenings.
