Won't be long now

1 post in this topic

Well, with the cold nights and days that we have had this week it won't be long and we will be standing on the ice! grin.gif The kids and I put new line on yesterday, sorted tackle, man was that fun with a 5 year old! The portable is ready, all we have left is put new gas in the auger and run it in the yard. My neighbors think I am crazy when I stand in the middle of the yard with an ice auger running. They soon figure out what season is next. They watched me pull the portable home, and one of the permanents yesterday, so it won't be long now people. All we need is some cold nights with no wind and the ice season will begin. Looks like this coming week will be ideal weather for making ice. Let's just hope we don't get dumped on with snow before we get a good start to the ice making process. Remember that no ice is safe ice, so be careful when you go out on the ice!

The ice is fine. I have a lot of standing water because my house is dark color. Come up and enjoy this weather. Ice is 24-30".a little snow left out on ice.

Nick, you did a great job finding good fish for everyone.  Wished I woulda brought at least one rod and my flasher for the short time I was there.  But it was good to meet y'all face to face.   I got a hankering for some pannies now.  Might have to look for some tomorrow.

I had the same experience today. Tons of little gills and very few big ones pike were not going on anything on tip ups today though. Wasn't fishing your area but figured I'd chime in. I had anywhere from 17-29 inches of ice with some water on top ice is great yet.

Still plenty of good ice on Bartlett Lake today. 16" where I was at. No standing water on the ice yet. The shorelines were in good shape, too. Too bad it will probably all be trash by Tuesday.   The bluegill were biting well this morning, but for every decent sunny I had to throw back about eight potato chips.   The Northern were slamming tip-ups baited with shiners. Too bad for me I brought suckers. I caught a couple Northern, and a 16" largemouth as well. I would have liked to get out to the airport lake tomorrow morning (after a trip across the river to get some shiners  ), but I have other things to do. The backwaters around Winona will just have to wait until next December.
