If my truck is available, i'll sureley bring the grill with me. I just picked up chains for the wheeler today....might help me a bit if i bring a trailer this time....

trailer on the back, plow on the front....should balance out evenly with weight!~

Reelemin e-mail me and Ill give you my cel #. That way you can call when you get to the lake. I think we will all head to the same area in the morning and then scout a bit in the afternoon if ice lets us. Then later towards evening we will settle in to a good night bite area.

Also bring a good 2 way radio if ya have one. Extra batteries are a good idea too. Hand held GPS is always good idea as well if ya have one.

For those that haven't been to one of our Get Togethers,

We gather in an a predetermined area. You can setup and fish there or move off on your own. Hi-Banks Resort is were we access the lake(directions coming soon). Bring your FRS radio and use channel 7.

Tim at Highbanks has my cel # and can call me for those who dont hace a cel or my number. We will send someone to get you. Pack as little as needed though because the snow is deep and we are getting more tomorrow.

Please show your support and get your bait/beer/waxies/snacks etc. from Tim at Highbanks. He waves the access fee and helps out with a lot of our events on Fish Lake.

After we are done fishing Sat night we will meet at Highbanks for some beverages, BS time and pizza. Probably about a hour after dark or so. This will give people time to get in to shore, put away gear and gather in Highbanks.

The only that sucks is that I have to leave my house (I work at home) when the weather is bad! I am THE worst winter driver because I usually don't have to. I take night classes now & I am terror stricken if the roads get greasy! But I guess I gotta say it's worth the driving and homework to make a change in life, right, Tami? Sorry to hear you won't make it to the Fish Lake event. See you at the Bash?

Supposed to be good and cold Fri night, temps have been very agreeable for ice making the last few nights. Should be safe for wheeler traffic. Although I am without an ice house for now, I plan to be at Highbanks about 0700 with my wheeler, auger and fishing gear. I am gonna use my ground blind for shelter and see how it goes. I plan to bring a few of my homemade beers in case anyone gets thirsty.

I'll help ferry a few people who are without transportation.

I finally made up my mind, I am going to be there. I will be on foot is the only problem. If your spot is too far i might need to bum a ride. I don't have my flip over up here yet, so i will be pulling an orange toboggan. What time should i be there?

We will be fishing of course. No prizes or food this year. It got to be where people stayed for the food and prizes then left.

We will be leaving and heading out to a spot. Unknown right now. Probably dock island. I will be leaving Highbanks about 8am if not sooner.

If you dont have a house and heat you wont last long and your holes will freeze up quickly. Its supposed to be COLD as Frank posted.

If you need a ride out make sure you are at Highbanks 8ish.

Those who show up later will have to call for a ride. Tim at Highbanks has Franks, Tom and my cel #'s.

We will meet at Highbanks after dark and BS and have some beverages.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
