Chase me? Oh I see. Comparing me to a furry animal. I've been called a hillbilly before, but that's a new one blush.gif I think I will be there early Gary and leave before it gets too wild. We have a Christmas party to go to that night. BC

If I dont have others from FM coming from out of town for this and nobody local needs it Im going to cancel our use of cabin #3 soon. Ill give it a couple more days. If someone wants the cabin for FRi/Sat let me know by E-mail. Otherwise I will cancel it next week.

Looks like I have room for at least 1 more in Cabin 4 both FRi/Sat nights.

WOW,

I think you might be able to count the Yooper in for this one. I will be in Fargo until friday so as long as the weather lets me get back on Friday night, I will be there.

This sounds like a great way to kick off the season......lets hope for ice!!

what is the report from Fish Lake, is there any ice yet?

Ice in the narrows and skim ice off and on around the edges and some nice looking ice in back bays and out of the wind areas. Problem on the main lake is wind keeps breaking up what little is there. That was as of yesterday.

Im canceling #3 tomorrow unless someone gets a hold of me before noon tomorrow.

Come on cold weather!!!!! Fish Lake looked to be totally froze over today. The wind didnt seem to be breaking anything open. Lets pray it stays that way and keeps getting thicker.

Weather looks to have temps in the 20's during the day and teens at night after Tuesday. It shouldn't be much longer.

I will have Cabin #1 for this event. Cabin #4 was rented.

Tim from High Banks called to report 3" of ice out front of his place a ways. He didnt go any farther. If your heading out be very careful and use a pick and life vest and your ice picks around your neck.

Ill explore more after work and report back tonight.

There should be a few wheelers up there for getting on and off the ice. Any one bringing one please post.

Hi,

I am thinking about coming to this event. Is this lake 10 15 miles NW of Duluth? What is the species of fish being sought after? All the cabins full up Northlander?

Thanks!!

David

Dave I canceled the extra cabin I had but Im sure Tim will have a cabin open. Call Tim at Highbanks Resort at 218-721-3355. Tim is a great guy. He always waves the landing fee for this event. Make sure you tel him your with Fishingmn and Northlander sent ya. He will give ya a great deal. If you get cabin #4 you can have a fire in the pit outside your door. Its big enough for at least 4 guys. More if you double in the beds. Cabin #2 has a hot tub but I think only 1 big bed.

We will be after eyes, crappie, gills if we can find some and of course the pesky pike seem to always show up.

LOTS of snow on the lake after the dumping we got yesterday. If you have a snowmobile I recomend that, if not a wheeler should do. Unless we get a bunch more.

Woodbury may be a long ways to come fish if you dont have atransportation on the ice. Moving too far on the ice will be a chore so Im thinking we may be stuck to the east side of the lake. I dont know what all the snow did to the ice on the west side yet. Ill let everyone know when I do.

I can probably get out for awhile, I have a wheeler, Vex, plenty of rods and the trusty jiffy but someone will have to point me in the direction of the fish. I only been on this lake once and that was last year when I had no transportation and I fished the same two holes all day.

Imay have to deal with Snowmobile trail stuff but we will see.

Just where will everyone be?

I Was with Serface Tention the othert day with his boy at the ATV class, we talked about it but never really said where every one whould be. I really don't fish by Krappie village or the narrows. so I was just wondering what to look for?

I will be there with a buddy that will be fishing out of my house. I also have a wheeler that I will be bringing up and will pull others out if needed.

ripstick,

Do you have a way to haul and extra wheeler along with our house. If so I'll let you use one of my spare wheelers that I have. You could pick it up Friday if you're able to haul it. Let me know what you think

I Still plan on some pre-fishing on Friday and a little extra fishing on Sunday. I was up and talked to Tim Friday (two days ago) He was just loading up his minnow tanks. Sorry to say I didn't ask him what he had on hand. Maybe someone can touch bases with him and pass it on to the rest of us. He's looking forward to having us up for the weekend.

See ya on the ice!!!

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
