Any hope !!!

4 posts in this topic

I don't think people are praying enough to the ice gods for ICE. For the last couple year I have been ice fishing Thanksgiving week end it looks like a glimer of hope with the temps starting to cool down on Tesday or Wensday. So that being said how many days below freezing do you think it takes to get 3 1/2 to 4 inches of ice on the smaller lakes? Am going to be bumed if I can't get out icefishing next weekend.

dont know how accurate this info is, but i read once that at 0 degrees for 24 hours will make 1 inch of ice. the 10 day forecast changed from yesterday to today but im thinking/hoping enough ice by dec 1. if anyone has better info on the relativity of making ice please post it.

Last year it was Dec. 26th before they opened the road up out of Morris pt. for 4 wheelers. Thinking its looking like that again this year. Hope I can hold out. Between the ice show and this website getting very fired up.

Yep. I'm on Schultz's Bay. Which side are you on?   Had to head in to Alex today around noon so I took a little side trip to Manthey's Bay because that is typically the first area that has walkable ice. Stood at the 145th Ave access. To the right was all open water, straight out was ice for maybe 30 feet and then open water and that extended to the left into Manthey's Bay for a ways. The rest of the Bay looked frozen over from what I could see from there. Nothing anywhere on the lake looks like it would be walkable yet. Lots of ice on the lake and still making more. The winds have been keeping small pockets of water open scattered through out the ice that has formed so the ice thickness is going to be very inconsistent for a while. The winds have started to die down so with calmer winds I would think the lake might lock up in the next day or two. Just so the snow stays away for Saturday.
