Player to be named later

8 posts in this topic

This is something about trades I have never understood and I hear it all the time. What if the team getting the player wants too good of a player and the team giving the player refuses to give him away and neither one will budge or come to any agreement. What happens then? How is this decided? 3rd party arbitrator?

Thanks to anyone who can explain this.

It is usually a throw in type player. A low level prospect or an organization filler as the Twins like to call it.

A Drew Butera type player.

Don't both teams have to agree? And what if they don't?

I don't know, but my guess is that it is already agreed but just not made public.

Now, who remembers the story about the guy that was traded for himself? Can't remember how it went, but I'm pretty sure it happened at least once.

And then there are the guys actually traded for inanimate objects.

The one that really gets me is when a coach is hired away and the other team gets some players for compensation.

And how does that story go about the Baseball Commissioner disallowing a trade? I think it was back in the days of Charlie O breaking up the A's.

Usually, there is a short of list of a few or maybe even a half-dozen players that both teams have agreed on, and the 'receiving' team gets to pick the one they want...it is usually because they want to look at the players a bit more or maybe complete a physical exam.

Sometimes it may be incentive based. If Monroe rocks they get this guy if he sux they get that guy, or nobody, or a very low draft pick etc.

I think I saw something about that in the "Baseball as America" display that came to the MN History Center. Anybody remember the details?

After a bit of research, I came up with this little nugget:

"In April 1962, the Mets traded catcher Harry Chiti to the Indians for a player to be named later. On June 15, the Mets received the player to be named later, who turned out to be Chiti, making Chiti the first player to be traded for himself. In 1987, in the same sort of scenario, Cubs pitcher Dickie Noles was also traded for himself."

Water level is a little higher than normal, but not outrageous.

I'm not sure if it's a Minnkota or other after market brand. Cabela's service center installed it and provided the quick release mount. When I took it back to them and showed the problem, they did not question the failure. Look at the lock on yours and see if when you push the locking lever over if the part of the lock is plastic or some other type non metallic material. The stub on the bottom of the motor itself is metal and connects to the plastic in the base. That's where the issue of failure lies.. If your is plastic too, then I'd question the safety and complain to who ever sold you that mount and get one that is much stronger and will not crumble like mine did.. Good luck.. I'll post the results after I find out what Cabela's comes up with... Kaz

Mayflies were just getting started on the west end of the lake last weekend.

Thanks! I'm glad to be here and so far absolutely love this state. The cold didn't bother me one bit and I learned that ice fishing is fun.    People look down on spinnerbaits? Never heard that but it wouldn't bother me if they did. I'll fish my way and they can fish their way.   Roland is absolutely right. I've noticed that there seem to be an abundance of bass in that 2-5 pound class, at least where I fish. I hardly ever find a skinny bass, they're all footballs.   Really I enjoy the pike though. They are great fighters and great tasting. Of course we don't have those down south and I've really grown to appreciate them.

There is a tank of leeches over by their water tank. They're stopping by later so they can go fishing. Gotta love our language. HA!

I always use only 1/2 crawler mainly because it is all that is needed to get walleyes to bite. It also more closely resembles the molting rusty crayfish and Mayfly nymphs that the walleyes are eating. The 1/2 crawler also works well when the walleyes are feeding on young-of-the-year perch. It works much better then using a crappie minnow on my rigs for some reason. I have tried both on different lines at the same time and the crawler will out fish the crappie minnow every time! Does not make sense when they are eating minnows, but that is the way it is. I always had problems with the walleyes stealing my bait when I used a whole crawler too. If I fed a whole crawler to the fish long enough for them to eat it, I almost always gut hooked the fish. One of my clients boated a 27-1/2 inch walleye today using 1/2 crawler, a red hook, and a green glow bead. Cliff

I was wondering if and there is any good fishing in Hastings during the summertime lake Rebecca, lake Isabella, Vermilion River, or anywhere off the banks of the Mississippi? I haven't caught anything yet this year and I am itching to catch anything now. Just a fyi I just bank fish.   Thanks in advance!
