French Lake WMA by Rogers, Otsego, Osseo, NW suburb?

8 posts in this topic

Heard that this was a good ducking spot. Trouble is I can't find it. Not looking to squeeze someone out of their spot, looking for a mid-week hunt. If you can send me in the right direction, let me know through my email in my profile or with a reply.

It's not the French Lake behind Cabela's is it?

I know there is a French Lake in the Rogers, Dayton, south of Champlin area, or somewhere there abouts.............I hunted a small pond just south of it on Private land some 15+ years ago, but know there were hunters on French that were shooting and moving ducks............about all I know or can recall........

I'm pretty sure that's the one you're thinking of. I lived in Dayton for 20 years and thats the only one I've ever heard of around that area...

Go To Google

Click the MAPS link on the top of the Google Home page

Type in Dayton, MN

Center French Lake on The screen and Zoom in...

Directions: 694 W > 81 North > Right on Brockton > Right on 124th Ave....

Thanks all. Got pointed in the right direction. Don't know if I'll be able to give it a try afterall. Buddy's dog got "beaver fever" this week, so we're taking it easy on him.

As far as I know yes you still can. Havent hunted it for years, but there's also another lake right down the road people always hunt called Dubay Lake. You can see it on the Google Map next to French Lake with the directions I posted for Google Maps.

I have a few different rods. The one i was originally referring to i am using for crankbaits.  i have a jig and worm rod as well. I have mastered the cast, just trying to learn more about leaders. Thanks! Do you recommend i use 17# test for my worm and jig rod?

As far as I know walleyes are native to almost every lake that they are found in up north. Cliff

How do you fish for the cats on open water?

Interesting point, BT.  I think our houses caught one perch this year, and I can't say that I knowingly marked one small one (except for when I was down in the bays on the south side).  I have no doubt that they are still in the lake, but I just ain't seeing any.

Are walleyes even native to vermilion? Pretty much every lake in northeast Minnesota had walleyes introduced to them in the last 50 to 100 years. If walleyes weren't native to vermilion, saugers certainly wouldn't have been native either. Sauger numbers seem to shrink the farther east each lake gets from Rainy Lake.
