Now, as to Mr. Tori, talking with the WSox??? Say it ain't so!

He's takiking but its highly unlikely he'll sign with them.

I do think there is a better chance to resign Hunter versus Santana not many teams can afford to sign a pitcher to a multi year contract paying 20 to 25 million per season.

I didnt think we would trade him before next year but now I believe there is a chance of that happening.

Hunter is definitely gone. I won't be surprised if we trade Santana. If we keep him for his last year, he won't be back. No way we can afford him.

It looks like we may be heading for some rebuilding years, as much as I hate to say it. I just hope they get it over with quick, like ripping off a bandaid.

Luckily, baseball is an easier sport to rebuild in than others. Look at what teams such as the Rockies and Brewers this year, and teams such as the Marlins and Twins a few years back. If we can sign a few young guns with the money we save on Hunter's departure and then get a few prospects for Santana, I think things will be looking good around the time the new stadium opens. Think about it, Morneau, Mauer, Liriano, Garza, Boof, and Slowey will be entering their prime. The twins have always been able to produce average to quality players to replace the guys that leave to free agency. I see the Twins laying low for a year or so and aiming at a run near the end of the decade while Hunter is aging and overpaid on someone else's payroll.

Don't get me wrong, it's going to be hard to see a player that plays the game with such energy go. But baseball it a business and us as fans have to remember that we can't take it personally.

The Castillo debacle...LOL. So Tori wants to win huh... 4 division title's in 5 years wasn't winning? In a nutshell Tori wants his Money.

Not sure if you paid attention this year, PierBridge, but the Twins had the reigning MVP, Cy Young winner, & batting champ...and couldn't finish .500. Did they have years like they did in 2006? No. But the fact is that management failed to provide a competent supporting cast to a core of extremely talented players.

Then they trade a legit lead-off hitter & Gold Glove second baseman & replace him with a project. It's the Twins way, unfortunately. Perhaps you recall Chris Speier & Pat Putnam?

You can laugh at the "Castillo Debacle" if you want but it's going to cost the Twins both Hunter & Santana in the end.

Looks like the Twins just sign Craig Monroe from the cubs, they know Hunter isnt coming back!

The same Craig Monroe that is a off season friend and work out buddy of Hunters?

Buster Olney's blog on espn states that it sounds like Hunter will sign with the Rangers...6 years and $90MIL!

Well, if he gets that, you know it won't be the Twins signing him... Would be nice to have them sign him though...

Leave it to the Rangers to over pay someone in a contract that is way too long. I wonder if they are thinking the Yanks will bail them out of this one also!

That is what I am reading as well. That is a heck of a contract for him but I thought he said the MOST important thing to him would be to WIN?

We all know that Texas is NOT going to win.

I know that is his hometown, but he will get VERY frustrated by their lack of pitching and poor attitudes.

Torri was on the Fan with Barrerio a few minutes ago...Said there are at least 5 teams very interested in him. He/His reps have met with the Royals, Rangers and White Sox so far. Also, the Twins. So there is another team or two out there, but he wouldn't mention them. He is saying it isn't all about money and that being able to go home each night to his family is like the World Series to him. Which would lean towards the Rangers.

He says winning is very important to him.

He said there is at least a 5 year deal out there, but that it wasn't from the Twins at this point. He won't sign with us if he doesn't get at least a 5 year deal...and it won't be good enough if the team doesn't get better. He said he wishes and hopes the team changes so he can resign here. By that he meant that the team needs to spend more money and get some better players in here.

Sorry for the rambling, but I was putting info in here as it came up in the interview. If you want to hear it I am sure it will be online on the fan in their on demand section.

Sounds like he is gone from what he said...

Good info. Torii will be Texas bound by the weekend. I think the Rangers need pitching more than hitting. They trade Teixera to save money and then they are going to sign Hunter for 15mil a year. I think Teixera is way better offensively than Hunter.

I'm not sure it will happen that quickly. He said he is in no rush to make a decision. He figured a few weeks or so....So, basically what that does is let us Twins fans hold out hope for a little longer....Rip our hearts out a little bit slower.......Oh well, I guess that is life as a Twins fan....

Teixera was a clubhouse cancer. It was addition by subtraction there plus they got servicable players in return.

It will be done in time for the Sunday Sports section in the papers. Texas will step in another overpaid contract that will last way too long.

It's all and has alway been about the MONEY...PERIOD.

5 years $90,000,000 quaranteed....thats ridiculous.

Good Riddence.....he'll never have another year like the last two and I predict he hits no higher than 259 the last 3 years of his 90 MILLION DOLLAR contract.

Go Yanks and Boston......I'm done with Baseball.

5 years and $90?? where did you hear that?

How can you fault the guy for taking the most money AND it would give him a chance to be at home (Texas)??

If the twins would have really wanted to resign him, it would have been done before the season started and a bidding war couldn't happen--because we all know they are not going to win a bidding war....

If he leaves without the twins giving him a very close to equal deal- how can it be said it is about the money? I suppose you can argue that a team gave him 6 years where the twins would only give him 3....Then that is another $45 Mil...But, if you argue that, you are a fool, because who in their right mind would sign a 3 year deal for $45Mil when there is an offer for 6 years and $90 Mil- exactly double?? I know I wouldn't be foolish enough to do that.

Did you listen to him on the radio yesterday? It is about more than money. He wants to play for a team that has a shot at winning, has a good outfield, and he really wants 5 years. Hunter has been fairly consistent the last few years. If you want to see the face of the twins go away, that is ridiculous. If it was all about the money he would already be gone. Give hunter and the twins a chance, and find out for sure how much $$ and where he is going before you write him off.

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯
    • SkunkedAgain
I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st

As I get older it's really not just about sending bullets down range.  Some of it's just the workmanship of the gun and the wow factor. The other two guns I have really wanted which I'll never have now because of their price, is a 8mm Jap Nambu and 9mm German Luger.   Just thought they always looked cool!

I had a guy hit me with a lightly used 1969 BAR, he wanted $1650 with an older Leupold scope. More than I think they are worth, I made an offer, he declined end of story.   You know if you look at the old brochures, a grade II BAR sold for $250 in the late 60s, $1650 would be a good return on your investment.    Why would anybody want a 50 year old gun, they are heavy, have wood stocks, and blued metal.  I guess mainly to keep their gun safes glued to the floor. lol   You can probably buy a stainless rifle that you never have to clean, with a synthetic stock you never have to refinish, is as light as a feather, and for half as much money, perfect.   I'm too old for a youth gun, although I've shrunk enough that it would probably fit. lol   No Ruger 10/44s.   Jim
