water temps-west end

3 posts in this topic

Can I get an update on the water temps on the west end?

Are the whitefish staging for spawn yet?

Brett -

Was out yesterday and temps were 50-52. Didn't see much yet for staging whitefish. We've had a ton of rain so the lake is up two feet resulting in some floating debri, logs, etc. to watch out for. All the runoff has definetly changed things this year so far. Good luck if you come up.

Thanks for the report!!

I was thinking about coming up this week, but I think the water temps are too warm yet. I am still finding alot of fish in the cabbage in central MN. The fish haven't moved out to the hard bottom breaks yet. Water temps were 50 degrees today locally.

Hope things get going soon up north, Maybe see you later in the week.

Can not say for sure, but there is parking outside of the park next to the boat ramp and also a turn a round road.

Is Stoney point access open to the public or just for camper access?

I purchased this exact boat last year just for Trout.  16ft Alumacraft, 25hp Yamaha, Helix 5 humminbird. This year I purchased a 50# thrust Minn Kota for the bow, I just haven't installed it yet.  Looking forward to it!

Cutbait is all I use for cats on the red. Cut goldeye, sucker and frogs are my go to baits. Typically a 4-6 oz no roll sinker with a foot leader or shorter. Cast it down current and wait. Caught a lot of cats that way. We actually caught eyes doing that too but not many. Haven't tried bait paste or anything like that but would imagine it would work
