so how has everyone's archery seasson been going? been seeing much?s anyone get out to the doe season with any luck? I personally have not seen much at all since opening weekend and I have been getting out about 2-3 times a week. I think i'm going to pull my stands. I have been hunting the refuge area. Speaking of the refuge, early doe season hunters were not allowed to hunt in the refuge, am i correct?

I shot my 2 does early Saturday AM. I believe you could hunt the Bemidji refuge(same as regular rifle) but not the Schoolcraft. Iheard only 1 shot(besides mine) in my area all weekend so there sure wasn't too much pressure on them.

you could not hunt the bemidji refuge with a rifle this past weekend, it was archery only. but it was still open for small game. Only saw three does where i was but never got a shot due to some thick brush. Sure seemed to be a lot of shooting from duck hunters though.

From 4am to 5am going south from Bemidji to Akeley this morning, I counted 112 deer (yes, one hundred and twelve). I saw 24 from Akeley to Motley. No big herds, just 2-4 at a time (a lot of times!). Thin the herd . . .

Even going from Bemidji to Bagley at night will show dozens, they are thick as usual.

Drove around Northome this past weekend and counted 102 deer with 15 bucks. One field had 37 deer on it, and what a sight to see. Had the daughter with and she kept track in a note book.

Funny how they start to get scarce 'bout 8 days from now ...

Good news is the food shelf will be stocked this winter!

Everybody please remember to donate when you buy your license.

Just got back from 2 days out of Walleye Retreat. Fishing wasn't on fire, but we ended up with a limit for 5 guys and a nice fish fry. Walleyes were 2:1 over saugers and most were in the 14-15" range. The keeper saugers were 14"-17". We fished in 29 FOW and had steady action throughout the day, with most of it being 10:00-3:00. Biggest walleyes 19 and 23 were 8' off the bottom. As others have posted, we had LOTS of lookers, who would not commit. Hottest bait was a plain red hook for deadstick and a small, gold "Slender Spoon". That caught 70% of the fish. I know others out of the resort struggled, so luck continues to be the variable.

It really slowed down since this warm-up began last week. The fish seem more scattered now. I think they're on the move to deeper haunts. I bet it'll pick up shortly since this is a stable warm front.

Nice work Frank. I look forward to the day that I can say that I am fishing a lake that I fished 30 years ago.
