The Gophers have demonstrated toughness early in the season. Despite a shaky start, they stuck with it and came out on top. It will be interesting to see how they fare against Michigan tomorrow night.

Go Gophers!

I was at the game and until they scored the first goal the looked horrible. I hope this isnt a sign of thing to come. I am glad the RPI fans had to watch their team choke that was great.

They are simply amazing! Down by 2 or was it 3... with 15 mins. left, I was thinking jeez wouldn't be great if they would come back. And they did! By far the best Minnesota team! Plus its college, they play for the game, not the $. Lot more entertaining in my opinion.

A lot more crisp tonight. I like the early signs of a nice transition game and I thought Frazee played well despite having quite a few young 'uns in front of him. 44 for 47 ain't bad.

So you weren't watching the game?

They didn't choke in anyway shape or form they were robbed by the refferee "plural"

Are they really going with this 2 and 2 refferee system this year?

It's going to be a long year for the Gophs I'm afraid.

I'm thinking 3rd in the conference may be a pipe dream.

I think you're wrong. We'll see what happens.

This is something they are experimenting with, each team will have a couple of games this year with the 2 ref system and it will be reevaluated at the end of the year.

I don't.... but I call'em like I see'em and I just don't see anything to get excited about.

Fortunatly for the Goph's I'm wrong 50 percent of the time on my predictions!

Watching that game against RPI was rough as a die-hard Gopher fan. If ever there was evidence that a game could be “fixed” or “controlled” by the refs, this was it. The calls against RPI in the third were all questionable, but that last check from behind… Ridiculous! It was as if the refs got a little advice between periods about how it sure would be nice to have the Gophers in the Championship game Saturday night…

I played that back on the DVR ten times. The Gopher player (Schack I think) knew he was going to get hit so he turned and then buckled like a rag doll. If I were calling any penalty on that play it would have been on Schack for Unsportsmanlike Conduct Diving. The league really needs to crack down on that diving crap, especially the checking from behind. If you know your going into the boards with another player and your stupid enough to turn your back, you deserve to get hit. I think it’s embarrassing that the Gophers had to resort to Diving in order to beat RPI. Freakin’ embarrassing!

I had hockey on Saturday night after that game. A few of the guys there stated that RPI got screwed badly but they didn’t care as long as the Gophers won. I disagree with that. I lost respect for Schack and I will honestly lose respect for the game if this continues. Players should have to skate through checks, hooks, and holds as best they can. It seems like now the slightest little obstructions turns good skaters into beginners out there. It’s not just college but all levels of hockey. The sad thing is that after the game the other players were probably talking about how good of a dive that was and how it was a good play for the team. I think it’s sick. That’s my opinion anyhow.

Good analysis Hockey Guy....if I'm not mistaken one of the two referee's "not Campion" made almost all of the 11 penalties called including the 3rd period one's which were crucial...Campion is a great referee I can't imagine what he was thinking watching his partner do that.

Yeah, and refreshing to see a fan who can be critical of an official who made a bad call, even if benefited your own team. I agree with what you said, it was kind of twisted. At least it was non-conference, and not in the middle of determining WCHA play-off position.

Two related comments. I think with how severe the ruling is on checking from behind, it was inherent that people would take advantage of it. They can't back off on their stance because it will send the wrong message. And they can't really determine effectively if people are abusing it. TV replays are one thing, but the refs have to make a quick judgement call.

Also, I don't like the 2&2 referee system. Seems like refs are tripping over themselves out there. The Wooger even pointed out the 2 linesman were watching the same line. And if there's one thing I can't stand, it's refs that are inconsistent within a game. If you call it tight, you better keep it tight. If you call it loose, keep it loose. I can't understand how having two referee's will keep it consistent.

Was fun to see some college hockey again.

Finally making it up this weekend to the cabin since January.  Looks like hit and miss weather conditions over the weekend, but I'm hoping to get some decent time in the boat...as long as the father-in-law isn't cracking the whip too hard  . That's good to hear about the success in Frazier, Matt.  Always seems like we are fighting for walleyes, but I'm hoping to change that and try a few new spots this weekend.  Hope everyone has a safe and good fishing holiday weekend.

We are from Indiana (land of terrible eye fishing). Staying in a cabin in the oak narrows June 3-10.  This is our fourth year fishing the big V, but have always fished the westside.  Never had great walleye fishing yet.  We normally stay father on the westside like around wolf Bay or Norwegian, so we wanted to find a cabin closer to the Eastside.  Figured the narrows would be closer so we can fish spots on the west side that we've already learned and also venture to the east where I've heard the walleye fishing is better for keeper walleyes.  I'm looking for any tips or locations to try.  Maybe someone could help us out.  It would be much appreciated.  Thank you

Hi everyone I am new to this chat. I was wondering what stage you think the panfish are in right now anything helps. Thanks Luke

There is spots in the parking lot for roughly 7 vehicles with trailers. When that's full, you can park on the side of the road leading up to the access (I don't know if it's legal but have never seen tickets given out nor have I received one). The access is fairly steep but  in good shape. A 16ft will go up/down and launch no problem. 20'+ fish houses can make it up and down.    The access on the south side (past the Bear trap) on Highway 71 has much more parking and is a flat landing with 2 docks.   Water clarity is good. Fishing is mediocre.

Haven't tried fishing there but I would love to go there someday.

Basskisser, You will love the lake. Compared to other sizeable lakes in MN the traffic is much lower.  Plus Vermilion has so much shoreline with great bays everywhere.  I always have a rod rigged with a Rapala DT6 in red crawdad color and another set up with a fintech jig and tube in either a crawdad brown or green pumpkin.  The Rap works great if you want to cover water and just bounce it down a rocky shoreline.  The tube is perfect for throwing under docks or submerged rocks that your sonar points out.  Good luck and have fun.  There is some great bass fishing on Vermilion.
