Rod Shelf Life

3 posts in this topic

Do fishing rods, particularly upper end graphite rods have a shelf life? Are they has good in 10 years as they are the day you buy them?

as far as I know, graphite does not degrade.. I could be way wrong on this.. I would be more interested in how much we/rod builders learn. So, your rods would be more "outdated" than lesser rods than the day you bought them.

I would be willing to bet that the coating/clear coat will diminish the more its left in UV sunlight.

I would think if rods degraded over time that manufacturers woudl be very hesitant to offer lifetime warranties.

still love my setup for bluegills but not the best when I use a size 10 jig and fishin for crappies. I might grab the clam springs and rig a rod up with the wire thats a little stiffer and see how it works. this would just be for deep fish.

Out Sunday ... Looked like a City of Trucks and Castles ... Bite was slow but managed a few Crappies / sonnies on Plastics.   we lost a nice walleye near the hole on a moon jig and crappie minnow.   Might have to go Perching in the shallows on south side of MilLacs this weekend.  Hey Moose ... what ya using for Perch on Millacs shallows 12-18 FOW?

Was out after work for a couple hours yesterday and got two walleyes to bite. The Landing is getting flooded out. Was kinda hesitant on driving out after seeing all the trucks parking on Shore and taking the long walk out. With all the black ice out there it was a little spooky but after seeing 17" to 19"of good ice  was pretty comfortable with it

I will be interested to hear of your experience.  Please let us know.    I think the anecdotal evidence was that the service and quality was not up to the premium price, although that could be old news.     "fine dining" has been a tough sell on the lake.   Several places have tried and failed that I am aware of.

Only fishing for crappies. With a baby at home only get a few hours after work to fish.
