Lakes Turned Over? Walleye Feedbags On?

6 posts in this topic

I'm going to be up in the Battle Lake area next weekend 10/13 (taking the docks in) and was wondering if anyone knows if the lakes have turned over yet or if the Walleyes are putting on the feedbags in the current? Thanks for any info!

I guess I'll just reply to myself - I'll be fishing the area this weekend. Mostly from a canoe or wading. The weather looks good. I hope the fall bite is on. If anyone's interested I'll let you know how I do.

Hi fishcanoe,

I really don't think the turnover has happened yet.

I was hunting ducks on North Turtle yesterday, and I was setting and picking up decoys bare handed without any discomfort. I'd say the water temps might still be in the mid to upper 50's.

For about 10 minutes, pretty dang good. Woodie/mallard action was very active a little after from about 715 to 725. Then it tailed way off. Not a whole lot of new birds around, but that could change any day.

Was on Otter Tail Saturday for the afternoon, water temp was 55(suface), fishing was slow. A few good bites anywhere from 30-50 ft. but nothing to show for it. Hopefully the bite will pick up as the water cools.

Most of our fish came on minnows under bobbers. I spooked countless fish with even subtle jigging.

I never made it out Monday was too tired from fishing Friday - sunday didn't feel like getting up early

Hey, Here a quick update on actual ice thickness or snow cover on trout. 14 inchs of ice pressure ridge out there. if you are  on a snowmobile if traveling fast on it watch for it. Truck or car i do not recommend on trout with pressure ridge. And yes i have been on the whitefish chain this year in truck. just not on trout. just my 2 cents

Thanks for the info everyone. And Borch that is good to know too.  I try to spend 2-3 hours looking on cedar each trip, but It's a lot of water to break down , and having only been out hardwater cattin 6 times so far I still have a lot to learn.  Generally I spend a lot of my 3 hours losing confidence and then wind up at the meth hole to catch a few .  Putting in the work is what makes it so fun once it all comes together though!
