Another good day.  They put a plug in her trach so she may start talking a little.  She did say a couple of words (hi Austen), and more will come with time.  They also stopped the drainage tube going out of her head.  They have put her on blood pressure meds because her bloodpressure and heart rate were up a little.  They said that was normal when there has been trama to the head.  She will graduate to the next level, which they call 3/4th, across the hall in the same unit maybe tomorrow.  It has three patients to one nurse instead of one on one like she has had the past two weeks.  The projection was that she would be in the induced coma for at least two weeks and she is completely off that so she is really doing good.   Her spirits are good.  No use of her left side yet, but she did lift for left eye brow (trying to express herself) and that encouraged us.  Keep the prayers coming please.  We have proof that they work.

St marys is where the flight for life heli took my daughter when she went into a coma, when she was bleeding in her brain. They pulled Heather through some rough times, but shes still here. The tumors are gone but from 9 years of chemo and 35 treatments of rad at 2 1/2 years old and gamma knife and on and on, she acts like a 9 month old little girl.. But i know from experience Deb is in the best place in my view...

It's hard to believe this is going into the third week with Debbie in ICU.  The last two days havn't  been as good.  Yesterday when we walked in to see her I could right away tell something wasn't right.  She whispered to us that  she felt like (Contact Us Please) (sorry I suppose I should have said crap but that's not what she said ) literally speaking she did.  She had a fever.  They had taken the drainage tube out of her head (which was only suppose to be a temp) and she was starting to swell in her brain.  After many tests Dr. Callahan decided that he should put a shunt into her head with a tube going to her stomach cavity.  This is done surgically.  He had previously told us this might have to be done.  This will be a permanent thing and will drain spinal fluids to be obsorbed into her stomach cavity.  They were going to do it at 3:30 today, but another emergency came up so this procedure will be done at 11:00 tomorrow.  Honna has to be busy cooking at our church all day and will also be doing my part of mashing potatoes for our Fall Harvest Dinner so Rhonda will sit with me as she has the day off from work.  Honna can use a mental break ( notice I didn't say phyisical because she will be very busy)  I would like to be at the church and I know she would like to be at the hospital.  The outside life still goes on.  Keep those prayers coming we still need them.  We'll let you know the results of the outcome.

Just feeling a little weary today

Things will get better

I do have the faith

This is a great site when we talk about loved ones and the prayers you all have sent to god smirk.gif. This means so much to us all but when you love one so much and this happens to you and your family you really think about what you had and it was not bad at all. This makes one think that a bad day is not so bad after all as long as we have are health. I pray every day for Deb and her blood family and I hope they can come to let here healing start for here. and stay strong for here and not let her tuff times turn bad she will get thought this she is a fighter and one that will pull thought and look back at the support here on FM and I thank you all for your help at this time I love reading what you all post this is my life line and I thank god for you all smile.gif. May gods light shine on you all we all thank you love Tom smirk.gif.

Again, still prayin on this end. No one deserves this, but so glad you have a great perspective on it.

Not a religious man SK but my thoughts are with you and Debs. The human body is an incredible machine capable of healing almost anything. Keep your attitude high and the belief in your gal strong. Positive thoughts and energy coming your way. Pull though Deb!

What would Christmas be without a Miracle.

My Christmas just got better, I can now see beyond the glitter and tinsel and feel it.

I can only imagine the Joy that this will bring to Deb and those close to her.

I'll be there in spirit.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Very low, probably 2 feet lower than last year at ice out.

what do they look like this spring?
    • SkunkedAgain
I might have missed a guess, but here are the ones that I noted:   JerkinLips – March 27th, then April 7th Brianf. – March 28th Bobberwatcher – April…. MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!

Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
