Mosquitos - Thermacell

7 posts in this topic

I was drove from the woods tonight by hoards of mosquitos. I immediately went to gander mountain and bought one of those thermacell mosquito orderless repellent things. For those of you that don't know what they are, they heat up mosquito repellent with a small butane cartridge. I have heard good things about them so I thought I would give it a try. I was just wondering what your guys thoughts are and if you have used them before.

They deffintily work great when the wind is calm. I remember the first couple times I used mine. Thought the mosquitos were not out. About 3 minutes after shutting it off they were attacking me. Thinking they just came out I started it up. Again not a mosquito they do really work great!

This is what I need to hear after coming in early from my hunt because of those pesky things. I was so pissed I bought it on impulse and I am glad that you have had luck with it, hopefully I do.

I read great things about it on an archery board and bought one. I'll be using it in my ground blind this weekend.

I was glad I had on my BugTamer suit last night.

Now if they would just have pockets in the pants.

I like to use my Thermacell in my popup blind.

I live north of the metro in East Bethel so not to familiar with south metro lakes. Minnetonka, Prior, Medicine, seem to have some popularity. On the north side the Chisago City area Green, Chisago, Lindstrom, Center, and Comfort are usually productive for pan fish, northern, walleye and summer bass. Big Marine also holds some nice crappie to 14" and larger Sunfish. Forest Lake and a bit west Coon lake also holds a variety. Last year I did a fairly extensive look at DNR lake surveys within a 3 hour drive north of the metro and came up with this list that looked promising for Walleye. I have fished a few during summer, but not all, with fair success.  Here is the list. This is typically what you will find on the DNR Lake Finder site only their survey will be for all species. I just took the walleye info. The Navionics link BringAnExtension listed should give you great contours for any of the lakes your interested in.

Scored a lowrance Elite 5Hdi today for $169.99 (awesome sale). Plan to use this on ice and in boat for GPS purposes. Paired with the navionics app, excited to compare accuracy side x side.   If interested in the sale, it's at a store that rhymes with meander fountain..     This is an upgrade for me, I have used the app with good success. Hoping this new unit will be a bit more accurate.

I scored an ice armor extreme black and orange jacket for $140, lots of new jigs with free shirts and hats as incentives. Crowds were insane, easily the largest I have seen in many years of attendance. Had a great time though. Ice is inevitable, but my patience is not my strongest virtue
