I'm soooo excited for this, I wish it were this weekend already! blush.gif

We've got a good mix of Pro Staff who will be around for the weekend, so this should be interesting and fun. Whoever thought walleyes could bring a diverse group of people together. grin.gif

Big Thanks to Paul & Appledoorn's for organizing this little Get-Together! It will be a fun and informational time!

Man that is a great deal and I would love to take you up on that. My wife and I have adoption classes for 8 hours those two days so I won't be able to make it up. I hope you have this again sometime.

I can't wait for this one to come. After spending time at Appeldoorns this winter I can't wait to get back up there. Even if the weather is bad we'll be in first class accomodations.

My buddy and I are going to try to make the trip. I have had some of my best fishing experiences on ML in early October. If my buddy buys the boat he is looking at, we will be up there, mine just doesn't quite cut it out past the opening to Isle Bay in the October wind and waves. How many rooms do you guys have available for the weekend?

polarsusd81,

We still have rooms available so if you and your buddy can make it, give us a call.

If there are a couple guys with open seats, I would love to come up and meet some of the other members and tag along. Maybe we should start an open seat roll call for the get together and there might be others interested as well. I really love fishing the big lake in October but I just know my boat (14' Lund with a 15 horse) wont cut it out there.

If you have an open seat, make a reply.

If you are looking for an open seat, do the same.

Fellas, opportunity only knocks so many times, and this is trophy time on the big pond!!!!!! Plus, you get a chance to sit around a bon fire and pick on your friendly neighborhood FM pro-staff to boot!!! Call Paul at Appledorns and sign up for this.

I have a 16' Starcraft with a 70 HP Johnson. It's far from the most comfortable ride, but it's a boat and it floats. I'll make room for one more guy in my boat.

Hi guys,

I see one "wife" listed, anyone else bringing the co-ed with? Nice place to stay makes it a good option to bring her with and fish and also call it a weekend together. Go ahead and call me a whipped man, but it sounds like fun for both of us! grin.gif

Prime muskie water at the prime time is hard to pass up!

I just sent an email to Paul confirming my wife and I are joining in.

I've fished the fall night bite on the west side for at least 8 years, but I've never fished the East side, day or night. I'll need tips on where to go. I have a handheld GPS (iFinder Expedition) with a navionics premium chip, so I should be able to avoid the rocks....

My wife is very unlikely to fish at night (unless its calm and warn, and then not too late), so I'll either have an open seat or look to ride with someone else.

I'm looking forward to seeing Paul and Borch again (its been a few years), and meeting the rest of you!

Fischer's is usually good in Fall. I can make a few calls and find out what's going on.

I may be in the same situation as far as night fishing. I'm not sure if my wife will go out either.

After we get our "better halves" out in the eve for awhile, maybe we could go out for another "run".

Thanks Rodmaker. Sounds good to me.

I'll be off line for a few days - going to retrieve my boat from Rainy Lake this weekend.

Just a couple of spots left.

I should also mention that the fall perch bite is in full swing with some truly jumbos in the 13, 14, and a few in the 15 inch range being caught. I just got off the phone with Tony Roach and they also ended up getting a dozen or so Crappies mixed in with those jumbos laugh.gif

Very low, probably 2 feet lower than last year at ice out.

what do they look like this spring?
    • SkunkedAgain
I might have missed a guess, but here are the ones that I noted:   JerkinLips – March 27th, then April 7th Brianf. – March 28th Bobberwatcher – April…. MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

👍. What was the water temp in Black Bay? Thanks....

      No, that wasn't me.  I drive a 621 Ranger.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!
    • Brianf.
Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
