Lockport Report!

2 posts in this topic

smile.gifJust returned from my annual trip to Lockport, it was cool and windy but the Red was very willing to dish out cats. This fishery never ceases to amaze me! Many many cats from a small 8 # to 18-25# This place should be considered a fishing destination, like other places in the world you just have to experience it. Most Minnesotans have a preconceived notions about catfish but boy are they wrong. Met a "chap" from England there with his family, Keith heard about this famous river all the way over there and came to fish it, he shared a seat in my boat and caught many and I learned a lot about fishing in the UK. As usual Stu's Cats on the Red and the river go hand in hand to making your trip a winner. We also had our annual fish fry of "gills" on the deck, where were you Canuck? missed you this time.

Those were dandy gills you cooked up Dave. If Canuck had been there, I wouldn't of had enough to eat

It is a bad idea.  It can spread disease and invasive species.   Don't do it.     Besides, the minnows swim away and within a short time are dispersed so the fish wouldn't see them as a big attraction.

For the summer trip, there are many nice resorts to choose from.   Depends on what you are looking for.   If you want walleye, choose something on the Tower end.  If more Bass, Musky, or Northern then either end of the lake.       There is a fair amount of variation in amenities and price among the various resorts, with many to choose from.

Would love to get together, but still in recovery from shoulder surgery. I will be attending the Ruffed Grouse Society Birds and Brews gathering and the Pheasants Forever Greet and Meet in Cambridge at the Pizza  Pub and Sidelines respectively in February. RGS on the 2nd at 5:30 and PF on the 20th at 5:30. No cost - just fun.

As far as I know there are no resorts that rent fish houses on Vermilion. You could try Pike Bay Lodge though. Great place! Cliff

Ha. Nope. Those are just my numbers. The other guys got 25-35 each per day.    The purpose of posting the info I did is to point out that the sky is not falling. There are still a ton of fish in the lake, just have to find them.
