Gotta go with Ted Nugent. Fred Bear.

Da Yoopers if they are considered mainstream.

Brad Paisley. The Fishing Song, I'm Still a Guy, others.

Any others?

Fred Bear - Ted Nugent

The Nuge also has another good called "I Just Wanna Go Huntin'", but it is a little hard to find. "Fred Bear" may be favorite song of all-time.

If you don't know how to whistle the theme song to "The Andy Griffith Show",

I can quote that scene with Bogey and Bacall for you:

-just put your lips together and blow!

Livin' Part of Life by Eric Church is a good one.

Brad Paisley's The Fishing Song may be my favorite song ever. (You Never Even Call Me By My Name by David Allan Coe is another choice for favorite song, but it doesn't talk about fishing, and this thread isn't about favorite songs)

Got so many fishing songs, it's hard to choose....have about 50 favorites on 2 cd's that get played over and over and over again.

DEFINITELY love all of Da Yoopers. Then there's an old Bing Crosby/Satchmo duet that is pretty good. I think it is called "Gone Fishin'". And Haywood Banks' "Fishin' Worms" is classic. Weezer has one about fishing. And the Richard Shindell song about the INS interrogation of an illegal alien tells a cool story. I can't remember the artist now, but "The 5lb Bass" is good too.

But ever since I was a kid, "Come On Down To My Boat Baby" by Every Mother's Son has been my favorite.

For hunting, I only know one:

"That Squirrel Had To Die" by Cletus T. Judd

I agree with Tunrevir, Hank Jr's "A Country Boy Can Survive." Don't forget Lynard Skynard's "Swamp Music." Can't think of anything more recent.

What disc is "Fred Bear" on?

That would be Robert Earl Keen and that is a good fishing tune. All his stuff is good.

I've always liked "And It Stoned Me" Van Morrison

Half a mile from the county fair

And the rain keep pourin' down

Me and billy standin' there

With a silver half a crown

Hands are full of a fishin' rod

And the tackle on our backs

We just stood there gettin' wet

With our backs against the fence

Oh, the water

Oh, the water

Oh, the water

Hope it don't rain all day

I was always different.

Nobody understood.

I didn't play follow the leader.

‘cause I was always in the woods.

They hadn't invented peer pressure yet.

It seems I stood alone.

But my daddy had a vision.

Yeah, Love started in the home.

Yeah, Punks used to laugh at me.

They said “How can you rock and not get high.”

So I just stood my ground.

And I watched those (Contact Us Please) falling down.

‘Cause I just wanna go huntin'

It makes me feel so good.

I just wanna go huntin'

Try to find me in the woods.

Things get a little crazy.

In this day and age.

The concrete jungle warfare.

Has got every body in a rage.

I sure like rockin' days.

And crave My rock ‘n' roll.

But when I get my mimin'

I know where to go.

Yeah, We jump in the 4 wheel drive.

Load up the dogs and the family.

‘Cause I got the feelin' live.

With the wired laugh where I can breed.

‘Cause I just wanna go huntin'

It makes me feel so good.

I just wanna go huntin'

Try to find me in the woods.

I'll slip away.

Lookin' for a new sunrise.

I'm feelin' ok.

‘Cause it's times like this I may be healthy and wise.

Here is the Swamp Music lyrics:

Going down to the swamp

Gonna watch me a hound dog catch a 'coon

Well, I'm going down to the swamp

Gonna watch me a hound dog catch a 'coon

You know the hounddog make-a music

On a summer night under a full moon

Lord, fetch my cane pole mama

Gonna catch a brim or maybe two

Lord, fetch my cane pole mama

Gonna catch a brim or maybe two

And when the hound dog start barkin'

Sounds like ol' Son House singin' the blues

Hound dog sing that

Swamp, swamp, swamp, swamp music

Swamp, swamp, swamp, swamp music

When the hound dog starts singin'

I ain't got them big ol' city blues

Well, hey pretty mama

Lord, just take that city hike

Said go ahead pretty mama

Lord, just take your city hike

Well, I'd rather live with the hound dogs

For the rest of my natural born life.

Singing that

Swamp, swamp, swamp, swamp music

Swamp, swamp, swamp, swamp music

Well, I'd rather live with the hounddogs

For the rest of my natural born life

Well, I'd wanna live with the hound dogs

For the rest of my natural born life.

Partial lyrics to "A Country Boy Can Survive":

The preacher man says it's the end of time

And the Mississippi River she's a goin' dry

The interest is up and the Stock Markets down

And you only get mugged

If you go down town

I live back in the woods, you see

A woman and the kids, and the dogs and me

I got a shotgun rifle and a 4-wheel drive

And a country boy can survive

Country folks can survive

I can plow a field all day long

I can catch catfish from dusk till dawn

We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too

Ain't too many things these ole boys can't do

We grow good ole tomatoes and homemade wine

And a country boy can survive

Country folks can survive

Because you can't starve us out

And you cant makes us run

Cause one-of-'em old boys raisin ole shotgun

And we say grace and we say Ma'am

And if you ain't into that we don't give a #*$%

We came from the West Virginia coalmines

And the Rocky Mountains and the and the western skies

And we can skin a buck; we can run a crop line

And a country boy can survive

Country folks can survive

i think it's 'trot line'. a popular method of catfishing down south.

i had a roomate in college that was sure it was "truck line"

R.E.K. is great.

So is Greg Brown. Many songs about fishing, pretty laid back, storyteller type stuff.

I got the lyrics from a website (reliabiltiy not known). I always thought it was "trap line."

trot line is the words. I love that song. Funny, I was at work today and the lyrics and sounds kept running through my head all day long!. Thanks for posting this because it helped get me through another day in the salt mines. Yes, many of us could and would survive if need be but we need to pass this on to our "youngins". Great post guys! Tightlines, and may that next deer coming down the trail be the one you have dreamed about!

Tunrevir~ p.s. (trot lines aren't legal in this state.)

tunrevir is correct, it's trot line.

I saw Alvin "Bad Boy" Bishop in concert once, he made a point out of pulling out his MN non-resident fishing license and showing it to the audience. Then he sang a song, as far as I know he just called it "the fishing song'. I've never looked to see if he released it or has it on any albums. I remember one set of lyrics from the song, went something like:

If you fish on Sunday, some folks say it's a sin

But if a fish bites on Sunday, I'm gonna reel him in

I still get a chuckle out of that.

Yessirree, that is my kinda man. Just think, some states still have a no fish/hunt rule(mostly hunting) on Sunday. Guess the good Lord needs his day too! cool.gif

A few excerpts from I'm still a guy by Brad Paisley....pretty funny song, highly recommended

When you see a deer you see Bambi

And I see antlers up on the wall

When you see a lake you think picnic

And I see a largemouth up under that log

...........................

With all of these men lining up to get neutered

It's hip now to be feminized

I don't highlight my hair

I've still got a pair

Yeah honey, I'm still a guy

Oh my eyebrows ain't plucked

There's a gun in my truck

Oh thank God, I'm still a guy

Although not mainstream my fave fish songs come from Primus and my fave of those is "John The Fisherman"

When he was young you'd not find him doing well in school,

His mind would turn unto the waters.

Always the focus of adolescent ridicule,

He has no time for farmer's daughters.

Alienated from the clique society,

A lonely boy finds peace in fishing.

His mother says "John this is not the way life's supposed to be."

"Don't you see the life that you are missing?"

And he says...

When I grow up I want to be,

One of the harvesters of the sea.

I think before my days are done,

I want to be a fisherman.

Ah, yes. I forgot about the masterpieces that Les Claypool created about fishing. And, he's still my favorite "lead" bass player of all time. Come to think of it, is there another rock band where the bass is the featured instrument?

I think "..Big Brown Beaver" is about trapping, isn't it? grin.gif
