LOW Mid September???

Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions, Myself and five buddys are going to be on LOWs in mid september. We will be fishing out from pine island. Should i bring my riggers? Is live bait the way to go? Is it worth it to try Garden or Knight Island? Any Information would be great. Are goal is to find some bigger fish if possible. Thanks again.

Bring your riggers or something to troll with. There

ought to be a fleet of Charter boats out in 25 feet of

water doin great. There might be a jig bite goin but

it would be kind of early to expect one.

I will second that. Definitely bring the riggers or some deep divers. We did very well out from Zippel Bay in mid September last year. The fish were showing a preference for reef runners on boards over the riggers.

As Curt and Bigfife said, bring some trolling stuff. THere has been a pretty good bite in 26' out in front of the gap. Most of the charters are there, but we caught bigger fish out another mile or so in 30'. Heading in to the cabin, there were a few boats baitfishing in front of the Morris gap so we dragged some bait around for a bit without any action. However, there were fish on the electronics. Steve at the Log Cabin had some shiners on Tuesday--said there are a few showing up in the river.

Thats the kind of news fall fishers want to hear. Shiners

are one of the big keys to making the whole thing work.

Those fish out in front of Pine will Stay there now and

move back and forth into the gaps and river. If you are

baitfishing watch for the clouds of baitfish on your

electronics, once you see a few of them in the same area

anchor up and start fishing. Give the fish a half hour

or so to find your jigs and the action should be pretty

steady.

It is still early but the Shiners moving in gets us closer.

Those charter boats will continue to do well trolling. If

you dont have riggers, 20 to 26 feet are perfect depths to

start pulling lead core or deep divers. Not as extreme as

35 feet.

The last bit of news I got was the bite slowed over Pine

over the weekend. The Charters boats slid down to Long

Point and got the job done.

There are a few days this week of cool down that could

coax the fish back to the gaps. I plan on fishing Saturday

afternoon and Sunday morning with CatMan Lee. He says

theres no way he can fish a whole day and not catch 5

Catfish. ?????????

At this time it looks like it could be a very pleasant

weekend.

Well I hope the riggin picks up outside the gap this weekend.I plan on coming up on Sunday and I really don't feel like driving to far out to find fish. My boat is a little small to be venturing too far out. Curt if you hear any other reports let me know!

Milkdud, I fished a few hours on Monday having a pretty good bite. There was a stiff SW wind so I didn't venture too far--rigged from Morris Gap just about to the Lighthouse Gap in 23-25 feet. Just a few small boats like mine but around a dozen charters. A couple charters came in from the west--maybe the LP bite slowed or it was too bumpy offshore. Had to check lines often for draggers--lots of little saugers hitting. Good numbers of keepers too.

Picked up some emeralds from Log Cabin. Tried anchoring, then drifting a jig, then a rig, then a spinner--no bites and I could see fish. Dropped the balls and caught fish.

I'm getting excited about this now. The weather still looks

good and I like the part about fishing out in front of Pine.

I dont mind the run to Long Point but we want the fish to

pile in the Gaps and start moving into the river. The

sooner the better.

I will have my radio on 88. If we hook up we can move

to another. It will be early to mid afternoon before we

are on the water. By that time you will have the fish

surrounded for us...

I am so ready for the fall Jig-a thon.....Saturday will be 3 weeks since I've been on the pond, ouch! Been getting some Catfishing in and I also did some Bass fishin on the Rainy so I'm still sane!

Hey Norm. Three weeks--must be going thru withdrawal, eh. My boatmate just called and is waffling about this weekend. If he cancels, you want to hop in? Kinda worried about the water getting dirty--Mon 36 mph gusts, Tues 40+, Wed 30 (here anyway), today 30--ugly stuff. Week ago Wed was 94 on the lake--hot but a lot better than this crap.

Yepper bad bouncey barometer and wicked mixed up winds these days. Blowing 20 and gusting 35 here today, Yikes! On and off rain too all morning.....Plain nasty and even "Bobber" my big brown Lab don't wanna go outside!!! Weather is looking pretty nice for the weekend anyhow.

September is transition time and I expand my horizons by dabbling in other fishes while patiently waiting for the Shiner run eh.

No withdrawls for me......Peeled out of Roseau yesterday at 440. Spent a half an hour stomping up a couple dozen big frogs en route to the Red N of Drayton. Lines set at 630..... out of bait at 9. 3 lines, 16 Catfish with 2 being widebody 36 inchers, and a fat 26 inch Walter ate the last frog just after dark.

Suppose I'd better bring jig rods, rig rods and a troll setup iffin I make it to your place at Bostic. Note to self.....Stop at Strieffs and get more Chartruese/white rattlin max gaps!!!!

Man I'd sure use them if I could get them! Baitshops up here don't handle them. Great bait for big fish , as are Creek Chubs, larger Rainbow Dace too. I plan on having plenty of Creek Chubs and Dace come October this year, if the Otters don't eat em all first! I had a hard time catching ANY Redtails this summer.
