West Leaf Lake

5 posts in this topic

I will be heading to West Leaf Lake in a few days and was wondering if anything was biting on West or any of the surrounding lakes?

was on rush this weekend for a sportsmans challenge. Lots of bass and northerns. Caught the biggest bass of the day, a healthy 19 incher in 5 FOW on a spinnerbait. Lots of decent bass, biggest northern went 27 or 28 inches, all fish on spinners or pulling cranks up to 15 FOW. piles of crappies were caught on the south end of the lake, straight out from the launch at oak point in front of the reeds. good luck.

ps, east leaf i believe is something only a top water can get through, from what i have been told

Hey vister you fishing out of a Skeeter? Pretty sure I know you,I started the club you're in and was part of the "round table discussion group" that came up with the Sportsmans' Challenge" concept one night in the Powerhouse. Glad you guys had a beautiful day for it.

Most of our fish came on minnows under bobbers. I spooked countless fish with even subtle jigging.

I never made it out Monday was too tired from fishing Friday - sunday didn't feel like getting up early

Hey, Here a quick update on actual ice thickness or snow cover on trout. 14 inchs of ice pressure ridge out there. if you are  on a snowmobile if traveling fast on it watch for it. Truck or car i do not recommend on trout with pressure ridge. And yes i have been on the whitefish chain this year in truck. just not on trout. just my 2 cents

Thanks for the info everyone. And Borch that is good to know too.  I try to spend 2-3 hours looking on cedar each trip, but It's a lot of water to break down , and having only been out hardwater cattin 6 times so far I still have a lot to learn.  Generally I spend a lot of my 3 hours losing confidence and then wind up at the meth hole to catch a few .  Putting in the work is what makes it so fun once it all comes together though!
