trip to duluth area

3 posts in this topic

My father and I are planning a trip to visit my sister and brother-in-law towards the end of sept or the end of oct. We are looking to fish for muskie at least one day of our trip. The rest of the trip we will be fishing for walleye and bass. Would we be better scheduling the trip for sept or oct. The water temps should start to drop by then. What lakes, rivers or techniques would you recommend fishing during that time frame. Any help or comments are appreciated. We are strictly catch and release.

Both September and October are spectacular times for muskies on the river and on Island Lake. I would recomend casting if you choose September, but towards the end of October with the unpredictable weather you will want to bring the trolling gear along in case she gets a little to cold out for casting water logged super braids.

No doubt the St. Louis River. Best musky and walleye fishing around.

Jim you are still alive? Long time no see....   Truck went through on Buffalo last night I guess. Saw the pics on facebook looks like the dude drove right into open water good thing it was shallow. That fog was brutal that would be scary dropping in with that fog like that.

Went out with a friend today. Looked like it was the month of March with the temp and water on the ice, and they bit like it was March as well! Ended up with 30 sunfish (7 1/2 to 9 in) 6 crappies and 2 perch! Was a lot of fun best bite I've had yet this year! If your going out I would advice to wear cleats espically when that water on top of the ice freezes.

The DNR should post a sign telling those unfamiliar with the lake that driving out from the main public access is unsafe. I don't recall ever seeing anything like that over there.
