Downrigging cable noise question

I also asked this question on "Lake Of The Woods" fourm too.

I am running two Cannon downriggers with 8 Lb weights, I made a maiden trip to Mille Lacs on Sunday.

At about 1.8 to 3.0 mph I get a audible hum from the downrigger line. The line is braided 150 lb capacity line.

I was running a depth of 20 to 33 feet down.

I am thinking this hum can't be conducive to catching fish.

Has anyone else ran into this and is it a problem?

Thanks,

Mark

It does happen. I haven't found anything to stop it yet, and it hasn't seemed to affect fish catching at all.

That "HUM" is generally just the sound of Downriggers runnign at the right speed. Just the vibration you get when you are running at decent speeds. I know in Alaska, if you don't hear the hum you aren't rigging right.
