I'm interested in buying a baitcaster rod/reel combo. I've used my brother's before and now i want to get my own, but i don't know what kind to get or how much to spend. any help would be great.

Try posting this in the bass forum. You'll get a lot of hits there.

I think you can't go wrong with an Abu Garcia Ambassator C3 for your first one. I think I have 6 or 8 of them now. After you get that one down you can upgrade to a more expensive/higher performance low profile one.

First are you fishing bass, northern/ musky, or walleye? I just got 2 for bottom bouncing walleyes, and can double for bass fishing. Cabela's prodigy which is a Diawa reel works well. I may even try it for light musky baits.

Headed up to Ely for New Year's and looking to get out on the ice for a bit ... if there is any ice.   In the past I've rented from Grand Ely Lodge, but rumor has it they aren't putting houses on the ice this year.   Anyone know of other places that rental permanent shacks on Shagawa or Burntside?
