leeches or minnows

2 posts in this topic

Our party is coming up to Rainy Lake next weekend and we will be beaching our rented houseboat near Big and Blueberry Island. Most likely we will be fishing the reefs in that area.

Any preference from others on the live bait? Minnows or leeches or maybe it does not matter?

Also, any suggestions on trying to catch big northerns in that area?

We fish that same area every year we go (this time of year) and leeches and minnows (shiners is what we use) both work. We tend to buy more leeches simply because they're easier to keep alive, but again they both seem to work.
