Borden Lake near Garrison

3 posts in this topic

Anyone have any info on Borden Lake ? I've always wanted to go after some largemouth after hearing good things about this lake a few years ago...but I've never made the trip.

Looking at the satellite map on Google Maps it appears there are MANY points and structure. Also looks like some docks are available to fish under. Is there any milfoil/slop on this lake...or pads?

Not looking for any spots...there seems to be alot of potential...but just wondering about the size of the bass and whether people have been successful catching them.

Also, the access appears to be on the NE side of the lake...is it shallow/deep, good condition ?

Thanks.

Unfrozen,

Borden has a concrete ramp, and good parking. Last time I was there, it was very shallow and muddy, making it tough to power load your boat....you're better off if you can use a roller trailer and crank her up (might save you from plugging your pee stream). As far as the bass go, I honestly haven't fished them too much. There's lots of slop, and the few times I was there, we caught them up to about 2-3 pounds. I have a friend who caught some really nice smallies in there up around 20 inches. I don't think there's many, but there's sure some good ones.

Thanks for the response. I've got a bed trailer and am a power loader but my truck is only 2WD so I'm not a big fan of shallow and muddy.

I may need to check for other lakes in the area. I'm heading from the Cities to Park Rapids and wanted to go up 169 and over through Brainerd. Maybe I'll head up to Whitefish instead. I've had good experience there in the past with bass.

Thanks for your reply,

Unfrozen

Leech, my experience exactly, I hated the thing! I'm a Mister Twister Piranha guy, it's a little heavier duty than the green ones but never had trouble with the green ones either over the many years I've used them. I can use a filet knife on those rare occasions we do a shore lunch somewhere.

Be cool if there was such a thing. Being people are getting so much more interest in pout it wouldn't be a bad thing I'd say.

I think some people are obligated to keep what they catch. Me I'll keep fish but not very often at least in the winter. (Not on Mille lacs) Mille lacs you have the chance at catching a trophy sure maybe it would be cool to keep it but for a lot of us letting a trophy go is as good as keeping it at least IMHO.
