I want to hear what you think on this "All Star". I think the record should stay unbroken.

Allegations are just that, allegations. I don't believe he has ever had a positive steriod test.

Holy cow, you opened up a can of worms here!! I sort of agree that allegations are allegations and innocent until proven guilty and all that, but the guys numbers peaked at like age 37 or something like that - it just doesn't work that way on its own. No one in baseball, including the commissioner, will talk about it, much less stand up for the guy. Plus you got these guys that worked for Balco or whatever saying that he was on "the program." Hmmmm, seems a little suspicious. He never had a positive test because the steroids were made by this company to be undetectable. I honestly don't have much doubt that he took illegal steroids, knowingly or not.

756 will be a sad day in baseball history...

He cheats. Don't try and kid yourself just because he hasn't came up with a positive pis$ test. Ask his personal trainer. Oh wait you can't because that personal trainer is currently *still* in prison for refusing to testify to the grand jury regarding Bonds claims that "the cream" and "the clear" were flaxseed oil and arthritis cream...

I hope a giant earthquake opens up the earth at AT&T park, swallowing him whole before 756.

I agree with everything you're saying except your last sentence. smirk.gif

No way should Bonds be recognized as the HR champ. N-O W-A-Y!!!

I do believe to be fair to Bonds we have to wait until he has his day in court even if that ever happens. I do believe he probably was using some type of drug but, nothing has been proven to date. Its all hear-say.

I would not want to be judged only on hear say. frown.gif

But if I had nothing to hide, I'd let everyone I knew talk to the courts and not have them zip shut and go to jail over it. smirk.gif

List him this way in the record books:

1. Hank Aaron 755

2. Babe Ruth 714

3. Willie Mays 660

4. Sammy Sosa 603

5. Ken Griffey 587

6. Frank Robinson 586

7. Mark McGwire 583

8. Harmon Killebrew 573

...

990. Glenn Braggs 70

Max Carey 70

Deivi Cruz 70

Glenn Hubbard 70

Bill Joyce 70

Jason Kendall 70

Mark Loretta 70

Randy Milligan 70

Jerry Mumphrey 70

Hardy Richardson 70

John Shelby 70

Elmer Smith 70

Garry Templeton 70

Mitch Webster 70

991. Barry Bonds 756*

I guess I could have ranked him much lower, but baseball-reference only listed the 70+ HR guys.

A-Rod would be fine by me. You never ever hear his name mentioned in the same sentence as steroids. And if you do, it's because they compare him to someone else they think is using.

When Bonds first came into the league I'm pretty certain he was a "scrawny" lead-off batter. A guy who hit the singles, doubles and triples mostly. Then all of a sudden he has a massive tank of a body and hits 40 - 50 homers a year???? His neck gets all pudgy, his face gets pudgy....all the same symptoms of steroids.

I gues for me, 1 + 1 = 2. If it has 4 legs, barks like a dog, wags it's tail like a dog and looks like a dog, then chances are it IS a dog. smirk.gif

A homerun hitter starts their pro career being known as a homerun hitter and bats in the 3,4,5 or 6 position. Griffey Jr, Pujols, Thome.....just to name a few that are active players yet.

all i see is bonds did this, bonds did that. Fact is, more pitchers were using illegal substances than hitters. intersting. if i take steroids, can i start hitting homeruns?

steroids aid in recovery time, sounds like pitchers would be aided by having less recovery time between starts.

asterisk his name if you want, but the guy can still hit and always could.

How can Sammy or McGuire be so hi on your list?

That's a good one. Anyways, This conversation isn't going to last long anyways. Either one of the following should happen. BB will be indicted by the grand jury within the next six months or in a couple years A-Rod will break the record and no one will care about Bonds until his turn comes around for Cooperstown.

he could always hit, but face it, steroids helped his power. they also increased the size of his head, not just muscles. steroids all the way!

If you are guilty till proven innocent, someone please PROVE that Hank or Harmon, etc..., didn't do anything illegal while they were in the game.

I suppose you people want to wipe out all those straight Tour de France wins because of allegations, too?

The smartest thing Barry ever said was to Peter Gammons at the Home Run Derby: "Hank Aaron will always be the home run champ."

And he is right, it doesn't matter if Barry tops Aaron, I (and I think most people) will still consider Aaron the far superior player.

Besides, ARod will top both of them soon enough.

Yeah, you're right - Aaron and Killebrew were juicers, that's why they were so good. I can't believe no one thought of that. I'm goonna make a few phone calls, we need to order a couple steroids tests for the old men.

And your evidence or proof of this is what??? A-Rod had never been linked to any of this. He has been a great hitter since his Seattle days and he just seems to get better with age.

Bonds has been one of the biggest jerks in sports history. Unfortunately, until they prove that he used steroids, nothing can be done with the record. But we all know. Below is an article about a war os words between Bond and Bob Costas.

Bonds, Costas trade insults

FOXSports.com,

A day after Barry Bonds called him a "little midget man who knows (nothing) about baseball," broadcaster Bob Costas said he wasn't upset with the San Francisco Giants slugger and responded with a jab of his own.

"As anyone can plainly see, I'm 5-6 1/2 and a strapping 150, and unlike some people, I came by all of it naturally," Costas said Thursday in a telephone interview.

Barry Bonds is and has always been a great hitter and one of the best ever.......Did he use steroids....maybe maybe not until a confirmation and conviction come out I stand on the side of celebrating one of my favorite ball players since he was with the Pirates.....Yes he grew between the ages of 20 something and 40 something......but who doesn't. When he came in the league there weren't all the supplements on the market. Technology and science have made it possible to get bigger stronger and faster with these LEGAL supplements. In a way I think the evidence is against him but I like to give him a little credit for the fact that even if proven to take steroids you have to figure the times he was taking them (not all HR's were from roids) and the competition he was facing were possibly taking roids also. Even the guys that have been proven to take roids he still would be hands down the best player on roids!!! Go Barry and I hope the truth is someday revealed and you are proven clean cause that would put alot of shame on the rest of the world!!!

and Pier's comment on A-rod is the same as everyone saying Barry did them.....You don't know nothing until there are proven facts!!!

Ozzie, I would have to agree with you on your post. Barry is not one of my favorites, but man do I love his game. His swing is one of the purest in baseball. Roids or not, that hasn't changed. A-rod is the best in baseball, a yankee or not.

Yeah I'm sure A-Rod just put those 40 pounds on Naturally....LOL.

Yes he is the best hitter in Baseball.... playoffs and clutch situations aside!

I just like watching the best athletes playing the best pro sport and that's baseball. A-roid ya say, don't believe that one. If your saying all players are on something, how do you feel about your neighbor then, % say he's on something too.

Interesting post.....

I'm not a big Bonds fan or anything....but the yr. he hit 73 hr's he also lead the majors in walks alot of them being intentional. The guy might see 1 or two pitches a game to hit let alone hit 73 !!! Roids or not that is talant with a bat.

I hate to think how many guys have used preformance inhancers of some kind in their careers. I can think of alot of players that were "little" when they started out and by the end of their careers didn't hardly look like the same guy.

I was at a Royals game a couple yrs ago and watched Bonds sign auto's for a good 20 minutes after BP so he does give back to the fans sometimes.

Yeah, I did think about them on there, but suppose I was too tired for more copy-paste. Guess I just don't loathe those two quite as much as I do this jerk... smirk.gif

ESPN guys on Fri-sat night were calling Bonds the best of all-time. I beg to differ. not even close to Ruth and the Iron Horse at batting avg and slugging % for all time Ruth has got him by a mile. Plus- Ruth was on the road to be a Hall of Fame pitcher before his bat got in the way. I think he was around 90-40 as a pitcher with a low Era. The Say-HeY-Kid, I would take as being better also- becasue of his all-around game. Bonds is great-- but with him a (Contact Us Please) can connet the dots and say he has LIKELY cheated. And cheaters are not champions and maybe that's why the good Lord has not given Barry a ring. For those who disagree- look at the Babes' avg for lifetime- it's a full 50 points higher than Bonds.

"If your saying all players are on something, how do you feel about your neighbor then, % say he's on something too."

It does get stale to see every player having an exceptional year get accused of juicing. I can't think of a powerhitter that I hasn't been accused. Common sense (and a tape measure) says guys like Bonds are obvious, many of the others are not. Anyone here ever train with the intention of adding strength or muscle mass? I'm no athlete, and it really isn't that hard to swing your body weight and strength 10%+ without illegal substances. A-Rod, Pujols , Griffey etc deserve the benefit of the doubt IMO. Baseball brought this on themselves, but the cynicism really detracts from the game for me.

Im suspicious of Tyner. After 1200 ABs now he has all this power to hit a HR. And look at him I think he may have gained a couple of pounds in the off season. Maybe someone sliped something in his texas chilly.

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯
    • SkunkedAgain
I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st

As I get older it's really not just about sending bullets down range.  Some of it's just the workmanship of the gun and the wow factor. The other two guns I have really wanted which I'll never have now because of their price, is a 8mm Jap Nambu and 9mm German Luger.   Just thought they always looked cool!

I had a guy hit me with a lightly used 1969 BAR, he wanted $1650 with an older Leupold scope. More than I think they are worth, I made an offer, he declined end of story.   You know if you look at the old brochures, a grade II BAR sold for $250 in the late 60s, $1650 would be a good return on your investment.    Why would anybody want a 50 year old gun, they are heavy, have wood stocks, and blued metal.  I guess mainly to keep their gun safes glued to the floor. lol   You can probably buy a stainless rifle that you never have to clean, with a synthetic stock you never have to refinish, is as light as a feather, and for half as much money, perfect.   I'm too old for a youth gun, although I've shrunk enough that it would probably fit. lol   No Ruger 10/44s.   Jim
