Any Ely luck last weekend?

6 posts in this topic

It seems the Duluth boys have found some fish worth posting about. I don't see anything out of Ely though. tongue.gif

We fished Farm Saturday and Sunday. It was dead in the spots I fished 3 weeks ago. Kinda figured. We searched around but just picked up scattered fish from 16 fow to 1 fow.

In all, about 4 walleye to 16 inches on jig/leech. 4 pike on spinnerbaits killed right after the weed clump. Mostly 2-3 pounds with one 8 shaking off. Finally a few of those plump sunnies on leeches by the weeds. And last, about 10 smallies on pop r and tubes. Biggest about 16 inches also.

Lots of casts to get that far. So, what did I miss? confused.gif

Good question. I fished very little but did manage to get out for 1.5 hours of panfishing & 2 hours of walleye fishing in the Ely area last weekend.

Panfish were biting in the deeper weeds, LMB were tight to shore & SMB bit on my plugs while trolling for 'eyes. Seems they are on the rocks pretty good. No bites from 'eyes, only skeeters. No fish for the braggers board, but worth posting...

Could have fished more & I am sorry I couldn't goto Algoma last weekend but check out the Blue Berry crop, thats a shure bet! grin.gif

Now that is just wrong... how is a man to survive like that.

When you are ready for some rehab, let me know.

Yeah Steve, but what a great start you had! smile.gif Is it the employment switch (can't call it a career switch so much)?

Maybe you need to do a couple lake/sunset shoots???? Loons???? Mergansers????? Eagles????? Any of these sounding like an excuse to be out yet? grin.gif

Good fish Casaloma smile.gif

Well, Wanderer, late May was weddings, and June was taken up completely with weekend guided photo excursions. Then there was the family reunion over July 4th, and now it's finishing off the new garage and getting siding going on the house addition.

And I've also started work on a fishing book.

Sigh.

I'll have to shoot you an e-mail one of these weekends, Casey. I'm definitely going to need a break from work. grin.gif

that's the spot I would go also. I tried there once this year, not much luck, but I did mark many fish.

For all you pan fish lovers, check out this beautiful pumpkin seed I found guarding the bed while I was out bass fishing. Couldn't help but get some video of this beaut! Enjoy!

My live well has an adjustable shut off valve in side for filling and running fresh water. If I don't turn it down to a tickle when I have fish in it, it will over flow into the boat once full because the pump is pumping faster then the overflow can keep up.  Not sure if you have one of them in yours?  I've even had a few big eyes flipping around in there hit the valve open more.

I believe minnows are a class of fish that remain small throughout their lives. They are part of the food chain and because of their small size we take advantage of their position in the ecosystem and use them for bait. There are exceptions of course but, as an example, for the most part adult golden shiners will typically grow to about 3" - 5" long. Adult fathead minnows will be 2" - 3" long typically.

If the hoses or hose connections are not leaking check : Live well intake connection, make sure that it is screwed on tight into the transom and that it is sealing. Could be live well splash over also if you are in rough water, but probably not with your type of leak. It may still be leaking rivets as they may not leak unless you put a lot of water inside of the boat. It does sound like you have a bad connection in one of your live well connections! Cliff
