I checked my memory card today and had 227 new pictures.... got to the store to check out what was on there.... no memory card, spent all day in the woods, and the truck looking for it, but no luck.. kinda ruied my day. anyways, i bought a memory card reader from wal mart so now i can just copy whats on the card onto my laptop, so i thought id repost a picture of the nontypical i posted before... also inbetween the store and the woods all day, my other memory card snapped a few pics of a small 8 pointer.. It was actuall in front of it when i walked out there, i was hoping I could catch a pic of myself and the deer in the picture but my timer dely must have been just a little off... by looking at the pics i can tell when i was getting close by how alert the deer all of a sudden got... Well heres hoping to more luck on the new card... im an (Contact Us Please), hope i find that thing.. its in a plastic case, so it should be waterproof. check out the times in the picture of the 8 pointer.. almost got me in there, i tried... also the date is wrong on the nontypical, it was taken last thursday.. is this pic ANY better, i know its blurry because it loooked like he just was passing by.... but its gotta be better than the ones i had on here before!!

Thats an awsome buck!!! I can assure you it DOES NOT have 12 inch G-2's! I think its a fairly young deer. Although webby the bases do not look to be "massive" by any means?confused.gif

I think once the velvet is gone you'll have a low-140's main frame 5x5. Give him about 20 inches of abs... maybe more we cant see? I bet he'll be in the 160's gross as a NT and will net NT ok. But hes still a young deer. Your looking at what going to be a 200 inch plus deer before long.

He awsome ooo.gif but dont kid yourself or you might be disapointed! No ones ripping on that deer, just giving you our 2 cents worth! Most of us dont have that kind of potential running around! Good luck with him! wink.gif

Shedfreak, by chance is that big boy running around the city? My trail cam hasn't produced any shooters yet but plenty of does...good for the earn-a-buck. Soon I'll move the cam to a hot scrape and should be in business.

Id rather not pinpoint a location on that deer, im sure you all understand... I did talk to a guy who watched him from 15 yards for 10 minutes and the buck never saw him.. He counted 4 drops, and he also knows a guy who has 5 other trail cam pics of him, and they came to a tally of 26 points. I assure you this is not a young deer, when i saw hom in 2004 i ESTIMATED him to be atleast 4.5 with the rack he was carrying, that now would wake him 7.5. The guy who I talked to has shot many trophy class deer, last year got a 170 inch, he knows a lot about deer and looks for sheds as well. He has a good idea of what deer would score.. Obviously the pic i posted does not do justice... he estimated him to be 220... he also has seen the deer for years. We'll never know til he's down, almost a shame to see an animal like that go, ya know. I have some more nice bucks on cam from the past few days... ill post them sometime. I have 2 twin 12's in the same frame for a couple dozen pictures, about 60 or so of the 2 combines.. both main frame 10's with identical split brows. Also got a nice 8 i have the sheds off of, his shed had an 11 inch g2, he's about the same this year, also got anothe non typical, about 8 pics... not giant like the first one, but a nice 4.5 year old deer. One side has a nice 4 point side with a tall bladed brow and the left side is like a tall brow and from there its just messed up, dont know if it was this years injury or one he's had for a few years, but a nice one to get a picture of.

You definately have a honey hole. Good luck man. I would hold out for your bruser though. That is a once in a lifetime buck with all those points, stickers, drops, no mater what he scores.

Since you'll be holding out for the big boy, I am sure we could round up a few guys to "cull" the other bucks grin.gif

Best of luck. Are you sure you aren't dead and have your trail cam in heaven?? grin.gif

this smells of a game farm. Just kidding!!! That is awesome. In my area I would hold out for a spiker or any field goal post. You definetly have some genetics going on and a great population of some bucks.

So we all will be expecting some pictures of your buck Monday morning sharp!!!

Hmmmm... What do you guys think about this one.

Taken on private land. Small game was not open yet. Never seen this guy as one of the tennents residing here.

{Note from Admim} I 'm going to error on the side of caution and remove the picture. Please Let us know how this turns out.

Oh oh. Looks to me a shotgun in one hand and a scoped rifle in the other. I'm surprised you still have the trail camera, and one that works!

I know what I would do if I found a photo like that... grin.gif

I would definitely take this to the sheriff and press charges.

On another note, how many of these pictures are being taken over bait. I find it hard to beleive that these perfect pictures are taken just off of trails etc. Particularly the picture with the squirrel eating corn right next to the buck. Unfortunately a few have ruined it for everyone.

Everytime I see these pictures, all I can think of is that they were baited in. If not congratulations. If they were baited in, I am not impressed.

Regarding the bait.. I use a salt block for one of my two trail cameras out which is this one. Since there are apple trees with apples on the ground near this one I one time threw a bunch in front of the camera to see what happened. (Not near a stand) Well the deer didn't even touch them! Have lots of pics of possums eating them though.

I place bait to get pictures, it is legal. I do not hunt over it and stop well before season, and it's a great way to see whats in the area. How does that ruin it for every one?

Tippman, I would print that off and hand it to your police dept. I have had pictures just like them, but they were my neighbor confused.gif.

I don't feel like they would do anything about it but I guess it doesn't hurt to try. It bothers me most that there is someone else screwing up my hunting. I work closely with many of the police and will ask them tonight how seriously they would take it.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
