Sorry this reply is late, but thought I'd post a report anyways...

Fished below the dam for a while on Saturday and of course caught several sheephead on crawlers. I did see a nice Walleye caught near me, but just the one. It depends what your after, but you can definetly stay busy below the dam.

I fished in my boat above the dam on Sunday for a couple hours and did alright. I was jigging with a minnow while drifting down the channel of the river. I lost alot of minnows and caught alot of Rock bass, a really big sheephead, a few small Pike and one nice Northern measuring 37"s long. It wasn't "fast and furious", but it was enough to keep me jigging in the channel.

when you fish below the dam, do you stay up near where the powerplant empties, or do you stay down by the edge of the walkway on the east side? I was down there for a while too on saturday, but didn't have much luck at all. I had forgot my minnow bucket at home, and erls was out of crawlers. I had a couple of REALLY nice strike using a rainy river smithwick, but i missed the hookset both times.

(btw i was the guy wading out in the middle of the river downstream of the dam on sat. i was out there from about 11:00 -2:00)

-thanks for the reply

I almost always fish on the east side around the last 1/4 of the walkway. The water comes up on to a shelf in that area and is usually a productive area to fish.

I was fishing down there a little later in the day than you. I think I started fishing around 6:30pm-7:00pm?

I tried fishing off the island too, but didn't do too much there. Walmart has crawlers too, and they are cheaper than at Erls.

I really wish someone would start carrying some bigger sucker minnows in town. The sucker minnows at Erls are a joke! $4.00 for a dozen really small sucker minnows!!!

Been a brutal hard water season for me as well, figured it was a continuation of my fall fishing luck.

Thanks guys.  I checked out Modis for ice coverage and Navionics to help understand how things are laid out.  Knowing what areas certain fish prefer and those typical depths is a big plus.

My wife and I are hoping to get up to Mille Lacs this Saturday and spend the night on the ice.  Does anyone have any last minute availability?  All the resorts I've contacted are booked. Thanks!

Thanks for your work guys! You were showin' some serious team spirit being out there today. I would have helped but I had a few appointments today I couldn't reschedule. I know I'm available Friday to do any last day scouting/fine tuning....

Definitely a grind out prefishing cats today for the gathering.  Weather made it to tough but I Jeff  and his brother pushed through the elements to try and find a few active schools .   Locating the schools were tough took a pile of holes and the augers got a workout for sure,  but fortunately  we did find a couple active schools. Jeff and his brother found a few on one lake and I found a decent school on another lake. The good news was that both schools were cruising shallow flats in both locations and about the same depths. Great news as this is a good indication they are feeding on these flats.   Amazeingly both schools were found on a inside corner. Bingo looks like we have a pattern formed. We iced and marked  a fair number of cats in both locations so things are looking good for Saturday. Plus is we added a few for the fish fry already  Jeff I'll keep plugging away out there hopefully I can dial them in even more I have a hunch there are a few more close by where we ended.
