Book or Video for E-collar training

4 posts in this topic

Just looking for anybody's suggestions on a training source for using e-collars. I have a brit/lab mix female that is 5 years old and has been thru obedience classes and has done pretty good thru that, but when she gets on birds/chippy's this time of year she will not listen. I bought one and now need to learn how to use it without going backwards with her. She is so soft hearted I don't want to hurt her, just want her to listen when running during the summer months. Thanks for any help.

Mike Lardy has a video/manual for e-collar conditioning that would be worthwhile checking out.

Tritronics also has a DVD for this but is probably not as detailed.

Whatever you do, make sure you have a good knowledge of what your going to do and how to use it before you turn it on. It is only used as a correction for commands the dog knows and has been conditioned on. You should start letting the dog wear it now and for a few weeks before starting to use it.

Thanks for the info. It is greatly appreciated. I will get her started on just wearing the collar tonight.

Cliff, you finally made it down to our end of the lake!  Did anybody catch a walleye?  I'm not totally turned off by them, I'll still stop by for a snack or drink...or both. You can't beat the setting - sitting out on the deck!

Today the Lake Vermilion Guides League held an ice fishing day for 35 5th and 6th graders from the Cook area at the Landing. The Landing very graciously hosted this group of kids for us. I found the owners to be very friendly and happy to be a part of the kids outing! I would not hesitate to stop in there for a meal or drink if I get in that area again! Cliff

I was on an Annandale area lake yesterday with only about 9" of ice which was getting rotten and black in places. The lake had 15" of clear ice and I was driving a Silverado on it a week earlier. There were quite a few areas where water had drained though cracks and opened up fist-sized holes within the crack.   All in all, the lake was perfectly safe for walking and more than likely not rotten or thin enough to make it unsafe for ATVs at this point. The landing was is pretty good shape, all things considered, but if one were to put an ATV in the drink, that'd be where it'd happen.
