Temperature guage for finding thermocline?

3 posts in this topic

I'm trying to find a compact an economical thermometer for finding the thermocline in lakes. Can you recommend a good one? This is for typical central MN lakes, not really big deep water.

I just want something that I can take out into the lake and drop it down to find the thermocline depth, then put the tool away. I don't need something that stays at depth.

Thanks.

Cabelas has them. I don't know how much wire you need on one. My brother has one that will read down to 150 feet. I think that most of the ones in their catalog only go to 50 feet. I'm not sure, but it might be worth a look.

i have one by humminbird but it only has a thirty foot cord. they cost $20 at cabelas. do you have a depthfinder? on most depthfinders you can crank up the sensitivity until you can see the thermocline.

I can speak for Ludlows and have nothing but high praise. Mark, Sally, Paul and Kelly run a top notch resort. June to early September they are usually about Max capacity each week. Outside of the peak season weekend use is still relativity high. They don't have a restaurant on site but will provide(cooked in house) high end meals for some large cooperate groups that come in. They aren't struggling and the service won't be beat anywhere on Vermillion.

hope you all are paying close attention to the meandered water issue at bay here in SD. Sounds like some landowners in Mn are taking notes.    Its a difficult subject and I and can see both sides from private and public perspectives.

Now that the ice is gone, what do people fish for before the walleye opener? Any reports?
