Where are the fish

4 posts in this topic

I am heading up on the 9th and looking for any advice on where to fish. Is the bite still awsome or is it slowing down.

Thanks for your help.

slot is changing that day just so you know... otherwise they have been deep during the days just off the rocks... ive had better luck with crawlers for the eaters and leechs for the biggens..

I would try just off the deep edges of the mud flats 30-35 feet of water. I have a friend who runs a launch boat on the southwest side of lake and almost all of their boats are making the trek to mud. The fish are always there but sometimes they want it really slow or speed it up with spinners.

My dad and I did pretty well on the mud on Thursday. Remember you don't always have to have the "fancy" beads or colored hooks. Pay more attention to using low vis line, smaller hooks, and long snells.

Good luck and be careful not to catch the Mille Lacs Fever that has been floating around up there! grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

The thumb nail method is tough for those that chew em!   I don't but know people who do.   I haven't used an official split ring pliers but a couple precision sizes have worked well.  This is a cheap set I like to have around.

I use forage minnows and other types of jigging spoons also. Usually tipped with minnow head or waxies.

Out of curiosity what do you all think this cost them?  Not including the truck damage.

i'm thinking of heading up and trying for some tulibees for the smoker- anyone been catching them?      how are the roads out to the flats?  i was thinking of coming on from the east side of the lake- maybe Hunters.

Decided to try trout fishing through the ice for the first time and it was awesome. We were setup in 80ft of water and were catching them 20 ft down jigging a silver kastmaster spoon. It was pretty cool to see how the fish acted with the underwater camera. They were like sharks when they came in. We had probably 30 or more trout come in and check out the bait but only few takers.  Was a lot of fun. Definitly going to explore more trout lakes. Doesn't get much better then fishing on lakes with no houses on them!    Here is a video of the trip with underwater video of the strikes:  https://youtu.be/6JuJhq-50X4
