Thanks Skipperkid it is what the site is for. This is a good site because of people that are willing to help others. People still have to catch fish on their own and even good info doesn't catch fish for many. smile.gif

I didn’t fish the crappies and really don’t care for crappies I just wanted to say Thanks for the post that was truthful. I fish walleyes and not much else. Fish move and when someone says where they are doesn’t mean they will be there and biting in an hour from when you caught them. Info is what this site is for and why we all read and follow it. I would hope that people aren’t steering others in the wrong direction. We all want the same thing, catch some fish. Some people fish more than others and stay on fish others get out now and then, and want a info to help to put them in the right direction. That’s why we read this site and ask for help now and then. I fish a lot of lakes and don’t get back to some lakes and want to see what others have done, can I fish the lake and find fish usually. But if others have had luck then I could take my fishing skills and fish to try and catch some. Keep the info flowing. I don’t want some to take this the wrong way but it is why the site is here.

I want this and hope it continues to help anyone who is reading the blog top catch fish and have fun with friends and family. cool.gif

I agree 100% that FM is to share some info and help eachother out. I also think that at times, during hot bites especially, we as sportsman have to be careful what we put on here so that vonerable (spelling?)fish dont get overharvested.

I have no problem telling people I have been catching fish in a certain lake and may even tel them on what but I do not give out specifc spots on the forum. Unfortunately there are some people who all they do is check out these sites and then go pound spots when they know a good bite is on. Some just dont get the "Selective Harvest" idea yet.

Lets keep the info (General) flowing and get some kids out fishing when possible. Looks like the youth of today arent fishing and hunting like when most of us were young so I think we need to try to keep the tradition alive.

Good luck and tight lines.

I am not sure where there is but was out for a few hours this morning since it was too rough on the big pond. We were fishing for walleyes but still managed 3 nice crappies (1 really nice one) along with 3 walleyes, 2 northerns, and a number of very nice gills. We weren't lookin for a meal today so all were released. I don't think FIsh Lake is that hard to find the crappies...just move around a little and you will find them. They were in the weeds late this morning but we moved as we weren't getting any eyes at the time and moved to deeper water and more structure. I don't target them that often but almost always manage to catch a few anyways.

We made it out yesterday and tried for walleyes and got three little ones. Then we pitched spinner baits on the weed edge and cough three bass and a few hammer handles. Then we tried for the sunnes and did good in some weed edges and some not so good we did catch some trolling for the eyes as well cool.gif. I think I would fish with my fly rod next time they sure where jumping all over eating bugs smirk.gif.

Well Deb and I just got home from fish lake and what a day. The walleyes where on the bite to day we must have cough 30 over 16 inches but we do not keep fish if we are not going to eat them fresh ribs where in the slow cooker so we let all fish go what a day smile.gif. I can not wait to get out again smirk.gif.

The fireworks in Duluth were great but some of these fish lake reports are just crazy. 30 walleye over 16"s. Man that would be a year for me on fish lake.

If the bite is that hot on fish for walleye and panfish I hope everyone is practicing CPR like Skipperskid did. Lets not ruin a good thing.

Tom,

You could send some of those walleyes up the Cloquet River. Spent the 4th up there to avoid the crowds, seems I avoided the fish also. Worst fishing i've ever had up there, but always a fun trip.

Well they are in a good Lake I hope they stay for awhile smile.gif. I did the rivers like the Cloquet river and the upper st. louis river and you know I miss that fishing. There is some thing about being out and not seeing people I never did how is it now? Do you see any body else out fishing smirk.gif.

Thanks for the report Skippers kid. Good to know they are still there and I may have to hone my tactics a bit. Was out today for five hours and only managed 1 15"er. Have tried the last few years to avoid bouncing on the waves on a calm day, by fishing during the week.

Two trips to Fish this year and one fish to show for it. Lots of little Gills however.

Amazing how the lake has changed since 86.

Its to bad that the lake is going to be choked out this summer by weeds. It was nice of them to lower the lake 1to 2 ft.

fished two nights with the kids last thursday and friday evenings. we caught 34 crappies between 11 and 14" on deep weedlines with slip bobbers and fatheads. they were hitting small rapalas too. let alot of small ones go. kids had a great time. i had to keep asking them to be quiet and not scream "get the net, get the net!!!!!" every time they hooked one or we would have lots of company in no time.

probably the best fishing outings i have had with the kids to date.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
