Any recommedations staying at a hotel in Ely for one night? My son has a college prep day this week that runs two days so we will need to stay someplace one night this week. I called a few places and have narrowed it down to Adventure Inn, Shagawa Inn, Budget host, Lakeland. Anyone have an opinion/recommendation on any of these places or others?

For Basic shelter you can't beat the Paddle Inn. It's not the Ritz but it's clean and comfortable. You can spend the money you save at the Ely Steak House.

Paddle Inn. The lady who runs it was very kind to my daughter, my dad and myself this spring. Also, clean, comfortable and a fair price.

Adventure Inn is great, but it is nice to have more people cuz the rooms are big and fit for like 4-8 people.

Thanks,to all who made recommendations. Stayed at the Budget Host-Motel Ely. Had a friend whose relative owned the place. Won't go there again. Ate at Ely Steakhouse and that was a great dinner.

At least10% of all eggs hatched at the Pike River Hatchery are returned to Vermilion waters every year. According to DNR statistics that percentage is usually a much higher survival rate then if they had let the walleyes spawn naturally! I consider that a good trade off! Cliff

They should not be  going  back to area waters or traded to  other dnr  districts they should go right back into LAKE VERMILLION !!!  Don't ya think its time the dnr   should start to listen  to the paying public, us ! [trappers, hunters,  fisherpeople ,boaters and snowmobilers ]

Yes, they are all done at the hatchery. Finished up two weeks ago this Saturday (4/15). Just waiting for eggs to ripen and hatch to go back out to area water bodies.

Can not say for sure, but there is parking outside of the park next to the boat ramp and also a turn a round road.
