Pan fish on Crane for Kids?

3 posts in this topic

Hey all, anyone out there have any tips for pan fishing with kids on Crane? Going up in two weeks with an 8 year old and a 3 year old. We've made enough trips to feel comfortable finding the big fish, but have never really went after the smaller stuff. Would like to have a back up plan just to keep the kids busy if the big fish bite is slow.

Thanks!

there are crappie in crane and sandpoint and little vermillion, try grassy bay for crappie . they do get a little hard to catch as the season move along. there are sunfish in sandpoint and little vermillion, easy enough to catch but mostly small. then again I'm not the best sunny angler. best of luck.

The ice is fine. I have a lot of standing water because my house is dark color. Come up and enjoy this weather. Ice is 24-30".a little snow left out on ice.

Nick, you did a great job finding good fish for everyone.  Wished I woulda brought at least one rod and my flasher for the short time I was there.  But it was good to meet y'all face to face.   I got a hankering for some pannies now.  Might have to look for some tomorrow.

I had the same experience today. Tons of little gills and very few big ones pike were not going on anything on tip ups today though. Wasn't fishing your area but figured I'd chime in. I had anywhere from 17-29 inches of ice with some water on top ice is great yet.

Still plenty of good ice on Bartlett Lake today. 16" where I was at. No standing water on the ice yet. The shorelines were in good shape, too. Too bad it will probably all be trash by Tuesday.   The bluegill were biting well this morning, but for every decent sunny I had to throw back about eight potato chips.   The Northern were slamming tip-ups baited with shiners. Too bad for me I brought suckers. I caught a couple Northern, and a 16" largemouth as well. I would have liked to get out to the airport lake tomorrow morning (after a trip across the river to get some shiners  ), but I have other things to do. The backwaters around Winona will just have to wait until next December.
